I think its about that time of year we all show off what we use in out pursuit of the ultimate road hunting rigs and what techniques we like to employ when blasting off the right of way.

Never been a fan of shooting over the hood of a truck. Too loud or something. Id much rather lay on the gravel and take a shot prone.

When shooting out the window you can really muffle the muzzleblast by shooting through the passenger window while sitting behind the wheel. This method is hard on the ears so keep that in mind. Another great tip is to drive into the wind if possible.

while road hunting roosters take a good look ahead with the binos. This will get you ready ahead of time for the jump out and bang bang.

Shooting over the hood or roof with a hp rifle usually leaves a dent behind. I also have seen a bullet burn across a hood once, funny as hell when he tried to explain it to his Dad!

When I was young a friend had the best hunting dog around. She'd jump out of the window, retrieve the pheasant, and be back in the truck so you could be moving before the farmer would even hear the shotgun blast. And if she saw a poster she'd even do it quicker.

My old man shot over the roof of his pickup and it cracked the windshield. I laughed as I thought it was very funny. Years down the road I did the same exact thing, wasn't as funny as I remembered.

Watched a buddy put a round through the side of his truck bed before I could stop him. He laid his rifle across the wall of the truck bed not thinking that the muzzle is a few inches LOWER than the scope and perforated the opposite side wall. On a positive note, it was a complete pass though.

Not where I'd like to be
I'll admit to shattering a side mirror on my brothers truck with muzzle blast. -- No one thought it was funny at the time, especially the coyote.
He gave me a lot of shit about it until a few years later, he was shooting at a target over the hood of his truck with his coat as a rest. He wasn't watching the muzzle and the bullet tore a long trench down the back of the coat.

The ultimate hunting truck would have:

1. 10-20gal of potable water on board in a tank wired to at least keep it from freezing down to say 0F.
2. On board coffee maker, something Keurig-esque that'd swing out over your cup whilst it was in the cup-holder
3. Weather-proof sandbags atop the side mirrors as well as something soft between the side mirror and door jamb that didn't mar gun finishes
4. Minimum 50ga fuel tank, gas/diesel I don't care, I just don't wanna stop so often.
5. Built-in sliding weather/dust-proof storage compartment in the bed long enough for 30" bbl'd shotguns and deep enough for scoped AR's.
6. ELD front and rear
7. Storage build ins in the box like Dodge has for tire chains, bottle-jacks, breaker bars, etc.
8. On-board air compressor for running suspension air-bags when needed as well as air tools for swapping tires, etc.
9. Weather/wet dog-proof seats and rubber floors
10. Rhino lining/Line-X along the rocker panels.
11. 12.5K winch on a receiver and power @ the head and the feet.
12. Some serious aftermarket lighting all the way around.
13. Provisions for 3 guns between the front seats. 2 shotguns and a rifle or vice-versa depending upon season/quarry for the day.
14. Lockable yet handy storage for 2-3 pairs of binocs and a spotter on a window mount.
15. Enough charging capacity to run all that stuff.

You've really put a lot of thought into this. Spoken like a man who... HOLY CRAP you're already building it aren't you.

Don't forget the sunroof. They work good for teaching kids how to road hunt for as they can just stand on the seat or center console and be at the ready at all times. They also work good for shooting deer in highly populated areas with a bow when sliding van doors are not an option. Ideally, 2 sliding doors and a sunroof would be available. That way you can have 5 dudes shooting out of said vehicle without anyone stepping foot in the posted ditches.

By 10-20 gallons of potable water you meant a shiny 16 gallon cyndrical container right......
