Wow. I don't know if I like this or not.

Reuters is reporting that Bass Pro Shops is considering the purchase of Cabela’s.

People “familiar with the matter” are reporting that the retail giant is currently working with an investment bank on a potential offer. This comes after reports of Cabela’s exploring its possible options. Both parties have declined to comment on the matter, but a 13-percent hike in Cabela’s stocks has occured since the news broke.
Forbes estimates Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris to be worth $4.1 billion, with Bass Pro Shops earning over $4 billion in revenue last year and employing approximately 20,000 individuals in 94 retail stores. Cabela’s reported $1.2 billion in revenue last year and operates 77 retail stores.

wags is right - quality will suffer (the $hitty side usually pulls the quality side down - not vice versa)

liberalism taught me that

Safe to assume the east grand forks cabelas will be shutting its doors. Along with any cabelas not selling ranger boats, or selling ranger boats close to a bass pro. Cabelas has gotten so overpriced and under stocked I rarely ever stop at the Rogers cabelas when driving to the cities. But I'll always find time or schedule my trip in such a way to stop at a bass pro when in the area. FYI, the bass pro in Gary Indiana has the best selection of walleye, salmon, and trolling gear. There isn't a cabelas in the Midwest that comes close.

Fact is Cabelas expanded foolishly. Their foolish investment in new stores thinking it'd increase sales when more and more people shop online only resulted in their new stores stealing business from other stores of theirs. Now they're paying the price. But I'm puzzled. I'm now finding out from NodakAngler that what used to be considered capitalism at it's finest is now Obama liberalism.

quest for 3oz bottom bouncer --- cabelas, scheels, gander mtn, all bait shops in dl, none had a 3oz that i could buy in October. They were either out or put them away for the season (scheels). Net result - only one place to buy dakota tackle.

Ranger boats = tracker boats both cabelas and bass pro -- imo its all fluff.

For fishing gear it might be a good thing but we have plenty of options for that around here. For hunting gear it will suck because BP has always had a halfass hunting department compared to cabelas.

And hence "Bass Pro". Not "Deer Pro".

wife says she cant feel the bottom -- fishing 40fow this fall. She felt the bottom - lost the only one i had - she caught 10X to my 1 on the 3 oz. Hence the quest for 3 oz -- and they dont sell 2 1/2s. I am always thinking finesse --- but after seeing her put on a clinic. I also looked for info on the web and see alot of pros say all you need is a 1 2 and 3 oz. depending on depth. They all pointed to over 30foot use a 3 oz. So i guess her clinic made sense.

it's awesome to have someone do something seemingly "unsophisticated" and they get the crap bit out of their presentation

I "guide" for kids (camps) sometimes in the summers and boom, out of nowhere some kid is doing something ridiculous and game-on, we hammer fish on their "goofy" pattern

example: we caught the crap out of some decent crappie in 4-5 FOW in the heat of July fishing the smallest clown colored husky jerks they make - water so clear we could see the crappies trailing the baits.

I had tied one on for "junior" to catch some LM bass on when, ding-a-ling, the crappies came out and were slurping up those huskies
