Neither one are cheap anymore unless you buy their stuff during an after season close out. A little look online can usually save you money. That or.... if Fleet Farm has it. Personally, when it comes to an in-store visit I'd pick Scheels over Cabelas any day. Better staff, an inventory of stuff you actually want, and great repair shops. When traveling to GF or Fargo it's Scheels and Fleet Farm for me. I know there used to be a store in EGF that carried some Cabelas stuff, but haven't been there forever. Actually, I think it was even called Cabelas. Is it still around? :;:howdy

Sawyer,
I like Cabelas a lot, so I'm disappointed. I disagree that they are expensive....just don't buy unless it's on sale. I get a lot of free gear from Cabelas points. I've also really been getting into their performance gear lately. Their guide wear goes on sale quite often, and I would compare it with the biggest name brands out there for quality.

yes..EGF still has a Cabelas, but now that Scheels has expanded and moved out to the mall, I rarely go to Cabelas when I am in GF.

these type of things usually don't mean good things for the consumer. I buy 95% of my stuff online anyway and the cheapest available price. including ammo. I do spend a pile online at cabela's but it's always in the bargain bin.

I like Cabela's a lot in EGF. Even though the Scheel's in GF is better now with the new store, Cabela's has way more fishing gear than Scheel's, not to mention more camping gear, smoking supplies, and of course the Bargain Cave!

^^This.

I go to both places but it almost seems to me that the hunting/fishing sections in the new scheels aren't that much bigger than in the old store. It was the clothing departments that greatly expanded with the new store.

Cabelas does have some great deals, usually Saturday doorbusters and such. I guess their holiday blowouts will be that much better this year as they try and empty the store.

I like cabelas but when buying sitka kryptek or other clothes like that i like scheels as they have a great selection and i can try them on to get the right fit. i did buy a pair meindls made for cabelas this year and i hope bass pro will keep that going as those boots are by far the best i have worn.

i'm actually curious as to whether Bass Pro will even open in Billings. It seems to me that the Scheels in Billings will put a beating on them. Cabela's hung on there because of their name and customer loyalty. Bass Pro in Billings MT won't have those things going for them.

I do like Cabelas. When they have a sale, it is usually pretty good. I can buy lures and get free shipping with no sales tax when their free ship promotion is on(it's on quite a bit). I wonder if they are going to turn it all into Bass Pro or keep it a separate entity that caters more to the north country?

Only reason I even go to cabelas when I'm in GF is to bring the kids there to look at the mounts. I very rarely buy anything unless it's on sale.

Jig raps on sale right now. Best deal around on those. If you buy $100 worth of stuff it is free ship. Can't complain about that.

I looked and their sale price is $5.99. Fleet Farm's regular price is $3.99-5.49.

While I only every buy from Cabela's or BPS if I'm actually at the store, I prefer Bass Pro. Every time I go to Cabela's, the fishing selections always look they gave a 5 year old a $50 budget and told them to decide what they should stock in the tackle section. I've always been much more impressed with the selection that I find at Bass Pro. However, I've not personally been to a Bass Pro in walleye country so I can't be sure that the selection is always good.

Well Scheels in Minot has under armor and more under armor. Camo selections suck. If you want something for a kid in camouflage it sucks. Have to shop clothes in one store and everything else in another. Scheels in Minot is poor at best, wish we had another option. I like cabelas brand camo and there prices are competitive if you watch the sales. 90% of my shopping is online now because of Scheels poor selections. Now my daughter loves there $90 jeans.
