Thumbs Up

I can choose to not go to a Vikings game and get searched, I can choose to not travel by airplane, etc. however these are other peoples property, and if they want to check us going in and whatnot that is their right. I (we) own the roads, we are not at the mercy of someone else when we use public property, it is ours. I don't like poachers, I don't like law breakers, but I like even less being harassed when I am out doing my legal things.

Having to remove my shoes, and belt, etc in the airport is already a pain in the ass, but it might save a few lives here and there. Being rounded up and shuttled through a game check is not saving anyone's life, guilty until you prove your are innocent has a bad ring in my ears. Searches require a warrant, or so I thought? I have nothing to hide, I don't break game laws, I don't smuggle drugs, I don't pimp any bitches, I am as straight as a grizzlies dick, and still don't want any of this BS. Has nothing to do with how much time of mine is wasted proving I am innocent, it is the fact that I should not have to, ever. Prove I am a criminal is what we do here in America, our fathers fought for this right, to free us from tyranny.

I don't think it's unreasonable when you've been pursuing game that is owned in "public trust" that you are subject to checkpoint stoppage. As Rowdie said, buy the license, you've agreed/submitted to the search.

While I somewhat concur that the purchase of the license means you have given consent to be stopped, what about those that haven't purchased a hunting and/or fishing license? Where was their consent form?

I am rarely a fan of the "slippery slope" argument for being against something, but this fits it as well as anything I have ever seen. Years ago the courts ruled checkpoints for DUI as constitutional by citing the effect they would have on improving public safety. So that sort of set the standard. Now we have checkpoints to which all travelers are subjected to as the law looks for that extra perch? Really???? If that meets the "public safety" standard used by the courts, then what I want to know is what doesn't qualify as a reason for a checkpoint?

someday we'll see these checkpoints ruled unconstitutional. up to this point nobody has really cared, just more annoyed than anything. But as every day goes by we loose more freedoms. Sooner or later someone is going to say I've had enough and challenge it and win.

I remember checkpoints in the 70's in SD. A State Trooper would inspect (not search) vehicle, blinkers, lights, brakes, then ask if you were hunting. I'm not sure, but inspections of all seem constitutional, they are not searching. If you were hunting, the GFP would then check your game, since in SD you agreed to said search with a signature on license.
