Once we find out if the house we are looking to buy is go and not no go; we will be looking. Boy has the bug now that I got him out this fall. He has his heart set on a yellow lab; probably not going to go over a grand. Dan's dogs look great but that class of dog is going to have to wait a couple years or 3. Good luck in your search, we cannot wait for fall!

Still looking, can't believe something hasn't been on Bisman. Every other year it seems like I see multiple batches of Springer pups.

I'm late to this post but, have any of you who've had a springer seen them retrieve geese?

One of the most memorable hunts of my life,(and a friends) was when my 39 lb little girl chased and tackled a big ol Canada goose. The goose turned around and spread its wings and the fight was on. Goose would run, get tackled, turn around attack back, repeat. My fat ass running through fresh plowed harvested corn field, would catch up to the fight, just about get in range and the goose would take off running, and flapping almost able to get off the ground, but then my dog would tackle it. This happened multiple times, until I could get a clean shot while the goose was running away.

Absolute Gun dogs, Dan Murry would be able to hook you up. I got my male from him in July at 10 weeks. One hell of a hunter this fall, I was quite surprised. He even has a website if your interested.

My neighbor works for Dan and they (neighbors) breed springers, English I think, with him. They were expecting puppys yesterday. I haven't wandered down to see if they arrived last night or not. I think they were in the $1200 range with the last litter they had. Neighbor has the female and the dad is last years champion.

Good dogs with tolerable energy. Not sure if they are spoken for yet or not. If you want more information let me know.

I kind of get a kick out of guys that won't spend a little bit an a dog. This is a living breathing animal that will be with you and your family every day for the next 15 years. Sure you can get lucky with a $250 backyard breeder, But buying from a reputable breeder with good blood lines and a history of no eye/hip problems will likely cost you far less in time, money, frustration etc over the life of the dog. Do your research and spend a few bucks. I guarantee you spend money on way dumber things that aren't going to be in your life for the next 15 years!

I wish I made enough where $1200 was a little bit. $500 is twice as much as I want to spend. Plus my wife won't let me spend that much. Too many things can happen to a dog, to justify that much. The male I have now we spent very little on, and he has no issues health wise, and does fine in the field. I just taught him the basic commands, and if I trained him better he could be great.

I wish there was a way a guy could sign a contract stating you will spay/neuter so the breeder doesn't have to worry about people starting to try to breed it and then sell pups at discount. Cause if I buy a dog for tat much I might try to get that back with a batch or 2.

A guy doesn't need to spend $1200 on a dog to have good hunting and a healthy dog. They get that kind of money because the sire comes from championship lines. If a guy wants to spend 500-$800 he can get just as much dog sans the bloodlines and have just as good hunting and avoid health issues.

Agreed, you don't have to go crazy. You can get a good dog for under a grand. But I don't think the 250 back yard dog is always a great idea either. The back yard breeders are why there are so many health problems in every breed.
