"as long as the water is still water"... i think you may want to re-think how you comprehended that sentence JC. "still water". now that's good stuff. no offense. just found myself chuckling.

I'm in the exact same "boat" ;:;rofl

I got my first big boy boat about a month ago, and I'm itching to get it up to Rainy this weekend, but sounds like it's gonna be cold.

My boat has the Yamaha 150 4 stroke and I'm super nervous that somethings going to freeze or crack and break it. From everything I've read though, as soon as you get the boat out of the water, drop the motor all the way back down and let it drain and you should be fine. Hopefully that works out, and more importantly, hopefully I can hook into some hogs up on the Rainy!

You wont get much time on the ramp to drain your rig, but when you get away from the ramp or back to the motel, lower your outboard as low as you can and let it drain. Get a couple gallons of RV antifreeze and pickle the bilge and live well after you get back to where you are staying. I just spashed it in till about a 50/50 mix was achieved. You will have a great trip on Rainy, last year was my first time there. Im going back up the 11th till closing day.

Some guys start thier outboards out of the water to quick drain them. I didn't do that and was fine, more than one way to skin a cat I guess.

Where are you from? What kind of Boat did you get? I have been considering Rainy as well but from all the reports I have see the sturgeon are on but not the walleye yet. Are you going to get out and do a break in first? I plan on getting out as soon as I can.

I'm from Grand Forks. I bought a 2013 alumacraft trophy 185 with just under 30hrs on it so not too worried about break-in. From what I've read, the water is starting to clear up, so hopefully we should be able to get on them. This will be my first year up there, my roommate went up last year and caught his personal best 29.5" 'eye.

Don't run em wo being in the water. They don't need that to drain em. End up wearing your water pump out
