What bullet you shoot Trump's caliber in my opinion.
I'd be totally fine hunting deer ANYWHERE with a .270.

Flinch factor come into play with those bigger. That's a HUGE factor most don't take into account.

I like my 264 WinMag with 120gr Barnes bullets. Muzzle velocity is about 3,550 fps. Dead on is at 250yds. There is no guess work on how high to aim on a deer out to 400 yds. Just aim for center mass, pull the trigger, and they fold.
A 264 win mag has been on my list of wants for a long time. I just can't justify it yet as my .257 weatherby absolutely hammers deer and antelope with 100gr barnes. From what i've seen from the barnes bullets i wouldn't be scared to send it through an elk either.

.270 here also.
I have several other guns, in various calibers, however some have never even been shot.
I had a luck streak for a short while and won a few guns that are probably gooder, but all they currently do is take up room in the safe.

The 264 with high BC bullets shine after 600ish. (As do most calibers/higher BC combos)

Drop is easy. Wind isn’t. I’m more worried about slipping the wind. It’s never windy in ND is it?

I shoot these in my 264:

I’ve had excellent terminal performance on deer sized and smaller as well. They may nuke on elk and such…. I’m skeptical

I miss Gordy's humor, and the fat squirrel Olaf. I almost peed my pants laughing the 1st time I heard the story about him shooting the Baboon in Africa.

He re-barreled a handful for me and they're all much more accurate than I can consistently shoot.

My brother has seen 10 or so elk killed with that bullet from close to far and it has performed as expected.

Out of various calibers

I've killed 2 elk W/Partitions, 12 w/Barnes TSX. I've watch 3 other elk die via partition and 12 more via Barnes.

Pass me the Barnes, you can keep the sometimes grenades, sometimes FMJ's.

I will just keep shooting the 143 eldx but unless i draw a tag here my elk hunting days are done hell didnt even get a deer tag this year. Rather chase ducks with my dog big game has lost its luster for me

Confidence in a firearm is such a huge factor isn't it.
