    Maceration for European Mounts

Thanks, Guy. After following your link, I found several other controls that will control well beyond 1000 watts. The biggest issue that I'm facing is the freezing temps, as I will not do this indoors. Most of the 1500 watt water heaters that I've found will maintain a constant temp between...

1500 watts should do just fine, but thanks dick....

    Maceration for European Mounts

I have 9 skulls to do, so unfortunately that isn't an option. I enjoy doing them myself so setting up a new system should be fun.

    Maceration for European Mounts

I think I'm going to give the water heater element a try. I'll build an insulated enclosure to hold a 30-50 gallon Rubbermaid tub with one or two elements in the tub. I'll have to find some way to rig it up so I can control the temperature. The wheels are spinning....thanks for the suggestions.

    Maceration for European Mounts

I should have mentioned that I have 9 skulls to do, so boiling and beetles are out of the questions due to time constraints and cost.

    Maceration for European Mounts

The only real problem would be doing it in the garage or house without the wife's consent. I know the process itself is quite simple and works very well. The only issue I can see is doing it outside during the winter months. Unfortunately, most stock tank heaters won't heat water beyond 40...

    Maceration for European Mounts

I looking to try a new method for doing European mounts. Has anyone tried maceration? I know the smell is terrible, so doing it in the garage is out of the question. I'd like to do it outside, but with the colder temps it may be difficult to keep the water heated up between 80-100 degrees. Any...

    Barnes TTSX bullets

Actually no. It was a perfect broadside shot, but it looked like the bullet may have deflected upon entry. The exit hole was 4-6" behind the entry. Oddly enough though, there was some trauma on the off-side front shoulder like the bullet may have separated. I'll be cleaning that front tonight so...

    Barnes TTSX bullets

This is my first year shooting the 180 grain TTSX out of my 300 win mag. Very pleased with the results thus far. Shot my buck at 400 yards and left a nice pencil hole going in and a softball size exit. Seems to be a very accurate bullet as well. Found a load that will put 3 shots into 1.5 holes.

So for those targeting pike in deeper water, are you going right off the bottom or suspended at different levels?

    The Eagles have landed.

There have been 6 bald eagles hanging out down around our hunting ground SW of Mandan. Looks to be 4 mature birds and 2 juveniles. I saw all 6 of them on one of our gut piles within 3 hours of shooting the deer. Pretty cool to watch.

    How do you ice fish?

Depends on whether or not I'm there to drink and fish, or just fish. If it's a day trip with little to no drinking then it's no shelter or a flip-over (dictated by weather), if it's more of a fun trip with friends the permanent is usually involved.

    frontal shots

I'd take that shot any day of the week. 2-4" above the brisket right at the base of the neck.

    Moose Hide

Mom was lucky enough to tag out this weekend on a nice cow in M9. We've been debating on what to do with the hide. Anyone ever had one tanned? If so, any idea what the cost was? Shipping alone for a 100lb+ package certainly won't be cheap. I think they would make a nice, warm pair of gloves.

Why not just go buy some 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" square tubing and call it good?
