    2020 Opener

Got out yesterday before the wind was too bad. Picked up one right away and had a hard hit on a second rooster. It dropped a leg and made it out a couple hundred yds before it tumbled into the cattails. I had a line on it but not the right distance and the dog couldn't get it. There must be a...

    2020 Opener

Yep, and part of that might be the virus too but it was a beautiful day. Last 2 years it snowed like crazy on the 10th. I stocked up on apple crisp and am heading out again.

    2020 Opener

I saw a surprising number of birds today and about as many hunters as the deer season opener. Good to see hunters afield enjoying the perfect weather and lots of kids walking with the adults too. About an hour of wet feet was enough for me. If looks could kill this rooster would have been dead...

    Deer Ticks/ND?

Maybe it was a nymph of another tick, hadn't thought of that. IF... deer ticks are spreading in ND I'm going to have to run treatment longer in the season. Some years back I was RG hunting in MN during Dec. with snow and cold temps. The deer ticks were happy to see me and the dogs.

    Deer Ticks/ND?

I know the Turtle Mnts. has deer ticks (black legged ticks) but have never heard of them in western ND. Just spoke to a MN grouse hunter that pulled 1 of his dog while out on the national grasslands. Anyone else encountered deer ticks out there? Maybe it hitched a ride from MN?

    SB 2315 / Lockout

" Yeah, well, the electronic posting program had a 1.5% usage rate in the three trial counties." I've put about 2000 miles on the truck since season started Sept. 1 and have seen exactly 2 of these Lockout signs in central ND. Both were on land that had been posted before. After listening to...

    SB 2315 / Lockout

It wouldn't hurt a bit to email your legislators now before the election and ask how they are going to vote on No Trespass when it comes up again. Because it will be back for sure with worse amendments.

    SB 2315 / Lockout

    SB 2315 / Lockout

North Dakota hunters, landowners clash as pheasant season approachesOne of the most contentious subjects during the recent legislative session, SB2315 sought to deal with the issue of whether landowners should have to post to prevent hunters and others from entering it, or whether hunters should...

    Hungry Grizz

I think it was Marty Stouffer who had a clip years ago of a female grizz at a river ford when the caribou were migrating. She hit one with her paw and broke its neck and grabbed a second by the back and shook it like a rag. And that was not a big bear. But powerful.

    anybody bird hunting

Saw 3 flocks & 2 singles in 2 days but only walked a couple miles each day. The flocks were 16, 13, & 12 which I thought was a great hatch. Legs won't be in shape until the end of season at this rate. The weather wasn't the best for grouse hunting, rain on Sat., and windy today. I wonder if...

    anybody bird hunting

Yep, packed up and ready to go. Sounds like showers this morning, then better weather. My hunting buddy and I have have done grouse opener for 30 years and wouldn't miss it. Half the fun is getting pics of the dogs on point. My older dog laid on the hunting vest all night. Traditions. Reports...

    Sharp-tails/ MT

I cut the breast in small chunks, like the size of a quarter, and marinate in Sprite & a dash of A-1 for a couple hours. Grill on a skewer with veggies or fry in butter with mushrooms. Don't over cook, pink in the middle. Just as good as the best beef tips. We never have enough grouse on the...

Good you got into birds. Most people seem to like Block Management, maybe should try it here.

    Leveling backseat for dog kennel

Just a suggestion as you might not want a dedicated dog space in the back seat. My dogs are always with me so I folded up the seats & covered them with plywood. Then cut galvanized mesh and hooped it over and down the back of the front seats. Clipped other wire mesh for the ends to cover just...

More of ND's public land at stake

So who is pushing to get this through? Legislators? The same ones that tried to privatize Corps land on the Missouri last session? 2315 supporters? Names need to be publicized before voting starts.

From the Star Tribune: With Canada closed, duck hunters will pile into North Dakota this year Heading north to Canada likely is not an option, so Minnesota waterfowlers are expected, in large numbers, to try North Dakota instead. By Tony Kennedy Star Tribune August 15, 2020 — 4:19pm Theories...

Oil Patch: What's it Like Right Now

Agree completely but it is no surprise. Greed did it in. Boom and bust just like the old gold rush days.
