    At work today by 7am. wouldn't let us hit the street with our rear wheel drive delivery vehicles though. 2nd day ever we haven't been allowed to leave the office with the mail in my illustrious 28 year career.

    I have about the same problem as you with about 6" of topsoil before I hit clay. I use the short stubby variety of carrots, thus they won't push up out of the ground. Save yourself some work and find the right variety (length) of carrot for your situation. :)
