    Black hills trout

Maybe an egg sucking leech or green butt skunk would be effective. (Those are real flies, look at a list of flies in an on-line fly shop list.)

Little Girl Recovering from Musky Attack?

Muskies have large fangs an inch or two apart? I'm suspecting otter, which was an alternative guess in the news article I read.

    livewell help...

I replaced my live well and bilge pumps years ago. If you upgrade the pump that brings water into your boat, I'd suggest you upgrade the bilge pump to at least equal the live well pump. I like to be able to pump water out of my boat faster than I can pump it in.

    Driving to Alaska

The summer drive is wonderful. We did it with a 1T dually pickup with an 11' Lance truck camper in the box in 2014 and again in 2016. You will note that all roads into/out of Alaska go through Tok. It's 3000 miles from my driveway in south Moorhead to Tok. In '14, we drove through Banff, and...

    School 60 years ago

My parents had an elderly neighbor who as his health failed told my father that he had lived and seen enough. As a child horses and steam did all the work. Then there was the Model T, and tractors, cars, trucks, and even airplanes followed. But he had just seen a man walking on the moon, and...

    Fish mount or picture?

There is a point in the age/size of a fish when the % of fertile eggs deposited goes 'way down. For walleye it's between 6# and 8#. Young females release fertile eggs and eat small forage. Big females release largely infertile eggs and when feeding don't discriminate between perch and walleye...

New Montana AIS Permit -Starts May 19

Zebra mussels are spread by waterfowl. That's how they got from the Mississippi flyway to MT. The scientific name of the responsible bird is Lundis rangerii. His home range seems to be affluent neighborhoods near the Twin Cities.

    Fish mount or picture?

I'm not mounting a ND walleye unless it weighs 10#, no pike under 20#. Taxidermy is too expensive to spend on small fish. 6#? Release it quickly, it's still a fertile egg layer. I'm not eating any walleye over 3 or 4#.

    Casting rod

Try a flippin' stick. They have a medium-soft tip with lots of backbone nearer the butt. I learned this from my BIL, back when he was fishing the PWT. Those bass guys know something most of us northerners don't appreciate.

Are Weber grills worth the $$

I too have a decades-old Weber Silver. Last year I replaced the cooking grates with stainless steel grates from BBQfun via Amazon. They fit perfectly (measurement required) and cost 1/3 Weber's price.

    Affordable Line Counter Reel

The least expensive is the reel you now have. Put a weight on the end of your line, go to your backyard, extend your rod behind you, drop the weight on the ground. Now sweep the rod forward with the reel disengaged. Measure the length of line you stripped off with a single rod sweep. If...

KVD + Devils Lake = Deadly Combination

AR: I've caught walleye when fishing for pike with Clouser Minnows and when fishing for white bass with white twister tails or Daredevel Skeeters (1/32 oz. spoon).

    electronics question

I'm so old I'm like flashers once fish are found. I use my old Vexilar ice fishing flasher once I'm on the fish. It's dash-mount LCD when trolling or searching for fish.
