    Fatality?

Not sure where they went through but what I seen yesterday is that you should get to deep water and stay there while traveling. The ice that is over shallow long points or sunken islands is suspect. If I did not have GPS that showed the structure I would not go on the ice anymore. Stay away...

    Van Hook

Fished the hook today. Fishing was ok. Ice is in pretty good shape overall but there are bad spots by shore. Don't travel by shore lines. Be super careful and take your time getting around. I heard this morning a 4 wheeler went down by Skunk Bay. One person got out and the other did not...

    Be safe out there

Fished Van Hook Sat. night and Sun. morning. Ice was 12 to 16 inches. Many pressure ridges. Had to cross about 8 of them to get to our spot. No snow made it easier to find safe spots to cross. Never would of tried it without gps so we could follow are track back to shore. Fishing was really...

I mark 'em, but they won't bite

I have noticed a lot of times when that happens it is real small perch. I don't have a camera but if I have that happening to me I drop down a tiny jig with a wax worm. If it is small perch I will catch them with the tiny jig. I am taking about 3 or 4 inch perch. If I don't get anything on...

    Depth finder

HaHa KurtR good one. It depends what features you want for example due you want sonar only, sonar/gps, sonar/gps/down imaging, sonar/gps/down imaging/side imaging. I like Humminbirds. You can get the imaging for hundreds less than a Lowrance and you can use I-link with your minnkota trolling...

What is the biggest Walleye you have ever caught?

11lb at Darling. I caught a 9 1/2lb. about 10 minutes after. Pretty fun day to say least. Biggest on Sak that I actually got in the boat is 9 1/2 and haven't been able to break the 10lb mark at the tailrace. I was fortunate enough to experience the awesome 80s of Sak when we would get one...

    It's getting better out there

You a big swan hunter? Just want to make sure you knew those were swans and not greater snow geese. thanks for the report.

    Walleye Skin Wallet

He makes boots also. I emailed and asked how much a pair of walleye cowboy boots would be. $600 wow. It would be supper awesome to have some walleye skin boots but that is way too much. I would of dropped maybe $300 but not $600.

Triton Fishunter 216 vs. Ranger FS 621

That is what I noticed while fishing in rangers also is how well they stay stable in big waves allowing you to use your bow mount. With the Nitro it looks like the bow stays a bit more higher out of the water when fishing. I wonder if the wind blows them around more. Sounds like tritons don't...

Triton Fishunter 216 vs. Ranger FS 621

Looking to get a different boat this year. Anyone fish out of a Triton fishunter before? They pretty much look identical to a ranger. Just wondering why you see more rangers on the water than tritons. Was hoping someone with first hand fishing experience in a triton would be able to give me...

    Favorite crank bait? 1, 2, 3 go..

Crank baits are addicting that is for sure. I have way to many. I know I forget I have half of what I got. Like most everyone else commenting before my go to cranks are reef runners and flickers. The color thing is what drives me crazy. One week you think you figured out the colors they want...

White Rock Decoys - Windsocks in general

So I was thinking of getting some windsock decoys. My first choice was White Rock but I seen on Snowgoose Warehouse website that they discontinued them because of bad reviews and quality issues. Was wondering if this is legitimate or if they just went into bed with another brand and are trying...

    Boats

I currently run a sylvan viper 18ft. I love the boat but it is time to get a little more room (growing kids) and it would be nice to get at least 50 mph (I mainly fish SaK). I was thinking of staying at that 200 HP range to keep the purchase price down and the fuel consumption. Several...

    Boats

So I am thinking of upgrading boats next spring. I want 19 1/2 to 20 1/2 ft. walk thru windshield fiberglass walleye boat. I kind of narrowed it down to nitro, triton and ranger but open to other possibilities. I am going to look at both new and used boats. I have been in rangers but not in...

Zebra Mussels in the Red River

Just seen on ND Game and Fish site that it has been discovered that larvae stage zebra mussels have been found the entire length of the Red river this summer. I hope not but fear Devils Lake is next and then probably Sak. I wonder how bad it will effect the lakes. We are losing habitat for...

    Lake trout tips

Bring 1 to 2 oz. jigs, white, green, chartruse in colors. Get a few heavy spoons that you can use for vertical jigging. Tip them with bait like pieces of smelt. For trolling buy a couple big dipsy divers and/or get 3 to 5 oz. snap on weights, or three way rig like mentioned above. Years ago...

Calling All Boat Mechanic/ Armchair Mechanics Motor Problems

Remember Jeff's Sport shop? Anyways he quit selling boats but he still works on boat motors. He worked on my Dad's opti this spring and I thought his bill was very reasonable. I would suggest you give him a call. Speaking of Darling yes it is crazy good fishing right now. The bad thing...

    I-Pilot Spot Lock ?

Yes the spot lock feature is not that great on lakes. It works good in current but if you don't have current or strong wind the head will go all over. You do stay in one spot but your boat may go in circles. Oh well I still love my i-link.

    making spinners

I use 5 beads. Big blades use more. Tikka like dirty said just googel powder paint fluid beds and you will see them. They make a huge difference. Also I recommend that you should bake your jig or metal lure. This puts a nice shine on the paint and cures it like a rock.

    top soil erosion?

Kentucky and GST are correct. The other thing that I believe influence farming practices in the RRV are the big sugar companies. They pretty much dictate to the farmers how many acres of sugar beets are planted. The pressure the farmers receive from the sugar companies highly influence the...
