    A grim reminder

Also the anniversary of the 1940 armistice day blizzard in MN, etc. My grandfather in Duluth was out duck hunting that day and said the migration ahead of it was spectacular, the drive home not so much. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1940_Armistice_Day_Blizzard

    Don’t know where to hunt

While you're probably out of luck for this year as most everything other than the river will be frozen within a couple days; you'll need to head east at least 20 miles to get into much duck country. Google earth helps locate ducky areas. The river hosts immense numbers of canada geese once all...

    One Lucky Dude

Seems we've had a quiet fall thus far for waterfowl/boating accidents. This guy is beyond lucky. Duck hunter rescued from capsized canoe near Medina, NDTuesday, November 06, 2018 9:14 a.m. CST by Don Haney Photo: MWCJAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) - A close call for a duck hunter. The Pennsylvania...

Injured Hawk, where to take it for help?

I suppose they're so plentiful that the cost isn't justified. Eagles and snowy owls on the other hand they'll probably spend the $ (maybe the feds?).

    Ariens snow blower??

Just to play devil's advocate; I bought a $500 MTD from Lowe's 9 years ago as a new homeowner and haven't had to do anything to it other than change oil and it's plenty good for my average size driveway.

    Plucked mallard recipe?

350 for about 50 minutes for 2 mallards. Stuff inside of cavity w/celery, apple & onion. Coat outside with oil & some salt. Lay something underneath the ducks in the pan (grate, stalks of celery, etc) to keep them off the bottom. Seal pan with tin foil. Take tin foil off and broil for 5-10...

    Plucked mallard recipe?

Fat plucked mallards are one of my favorite meals of the year. Similar recipe to many mentioned here; I'll try to track it down from family.

Teacher gets fired for giving 0s

Dress codes are tough to enforce anymore - have had parents cry "free speech" when kids are told to not wear bandanas, confederate flags, etc.

Teacher gets fired for giving 0s

Agree with you. I would also agree with the other side a bit that we can't just dump a kid on the scrap heap because they don't want to do their work. But there do have to be consequences so it's a tough dichotomy. Just curious as to when you retired? - - - Updated - - - No offense taken...

Teacher gets fired for giving 0s

Very common scenario in ND as well (other than the firing part). Teachers are encouraged, and in some cases forced, to not give zeroes even when the student has been given every opportunity to do their work.

    No trespass

Have run into that a lot as well. Seems a good chunk of the unsigned posted signs I come across are parcels that have absentee ownership. My guess is a fair amount of that land gets posted by adjacent landowners just to keep people out of it or by renters even though they have no plans to hunt...

    No trespass

I guess I don't feel it would change things much. I find so little unposted land anymore; the only thing this would change is that you'd probably need a mapping program to figure out who the landowner is instead of seeing it on a posted sign (although a good chunk of those don't have a name...

    How to pinpoint the "X"?

I've never had much luck on foggy mornings. Birds either don't fly or can't see the decoys.

    How to pinpoint the "X"?

GPS mostly. Google earth on the phone can help, drop a pin on the part of the field they're in. Crazy how turned around in a field a guy can get in the dark. If you've really got time you can wait until the birds leave and then drive out there and drop a waypoint.

    Hurricane Evacuation

I have a couple uncles in the Houston area - one fairly close to the coast in Friendswood who said they had the same approach until they did it. Obviously survived without injury but said it was a miserable couple days.

    Hurricane Evacuation

Because they have to make it look dramatic on 24 hour news/weather stations.

Don't believe so; couldn't as of a few years ago anyway.
