    Best Deer Hunting Snacks

The wife likes those peanut butter wafer things. I will take whatever I think would be good at the time. One year I made a bunch of pickled eggs. Jerky is always good, apples are good (then you can throw the rest out as bait) and of course some of the kids' Halloween candy.

    Rifle Opener 2019 countdown

Gonna pop the first doe I see. Then we can focus on the kids youth tag and wifes any antlered tag. This has always been my favorite time of the year. These days for a different reason though. Now I get to watch my kids hunt and hopefully make memories they will never forget. Good luck to all of...

An Arkansas hunter killed Tuesday by a deer

Years ago we walked up an assumed dead buck. The thing got up and started charging us, good thing I had a round in the chamber. Last year I thought the buck I shot was dead. Even let it lay for about 15 minutes. Starting dragging it and it starting fighting back, weirdest thing having a deer...

    Unlimited deer tags

Well, I am going to try for one. I bought a muzzle-loader 8 years ago in hopes of drawing a tag. Since I can't ever draw one I will try to buy a left-over doe tag and go hunt in December with the boom stick.

    Things you eat/make while camping

Burgers, brats, chicken, anything that goes on the grill. Usually eggs and sausage in the morning, or the shake and poor pancakes. I have been looking at getting a cast iron pot and pan so I can cook over the fire. We did get a pie fryer and that is pretty cool.

    Youth Season

It is the 14 year old tag so if it's a no go in a couple weeks we have regular season. She was successful in filling her tag the last two years, doe's are a little easier than bucks. It has introduced a whole new style of hunting. I have always done the walking/spot and stalk. With her we've...

    Youth Season

With youth season around the corner I am getting excited to get my daughter out to see what we can find. With that said, I know I cannot carry a weapon during youth season. However, if she does not fill her tag and hunts regular season with the rest of us can I carry my gun? It seems silly that...

    Early Fall?

I am going to predict a cold and snowy winter. It was a cool and wet summer so we could assume the pattern will continue.

    New Johns

I don't think it was state record either, but for sure whopper club. Oh well, it's still in the lake and I'm sure there are plenty more.

    New Johns

Was up there last weekend camping, but couldn't tell you the water temp. Kids were catching little perch all day with an occasional smallmouth or bluegill. I caught an 18.5 inch white bass late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Threw it back right away because I was on my way to bed. Woke up...

    Left Lane = PASSING LANE!

I tend to get very annoyed with traffic violations in my old age. Everyone's in a hurry to get to point A to point B, texting/talking on the phone, no blinkers, inconsiderate a-holes that won't let anybody over, people taking up two parking spots, on and on. Sometimes I purposely become a...

    Yearly RV parks

Sportsman looked great until you said no water or dump station. I would rather have full hook-ups so I don't have to haul water and poo. I will have to do some digging around and probably try to find something on the big lake since that's about as close to Bismarck as a person could get...

    Yearly RV parks

I am getting tired of pulling the camper around and toying with the idea of getting a permanent spot next year. I know of Red Rock on Tschida and Morning Star on Sakakawea. Are there any areas that are closer to water? I don't like the idea of having to drive to the water, a short walk would be ok.

Hope I didn't miss out. I need another preference point.

    Tough little buggers

I can't believe how tough deer are. Watched one get smoked on 43rd in Bismarck this morning. The speed limit is 45 there, so I am assuming the person was doing around 45 or 50. The thing flew in the air and across the ditch I don't know how many feet (cleared the entire ditch), landed on the...

    Elevated blinds... worth the hassle?

We put one up a few years back and the more I sit in it, the more I like it. However, there is nothing better than putting miles on the boots and popping over the next hill running into a group of deer. Or spotting a deer bedded down and stalking it.

    Muzzle Loader Season

My wife bought me a muzzle loader for a wedding gift so I started putting my name in the hat. After 7 years of no luck I quit putting in. I told the wife I was going to sell it and buy something I will actually use but she said no. I guess since I can't sell it I might as well start putting in...

    Really??

Arrogant is exactly how my Great Great Grandpa explained him to my Mom. I guess they knew each other and my Great Great Grandpa was not a fan of him at all. And I agree, let them party it up and celebrate I was just pointing out the double standards.
