    30000cfs ???

So the lake has risen more than 15' 4 times. In two of those years it started out pretty low meaning it took less water volume per foot and the corp new they had plenty of space so they likely didn't increase outflow accordingly. That brings us to 1997 and 2011, both large water years and yet...

    30000cfs ???

As Allen said above, you can't manage a system based on an extreme event that might happen once in a hundred years. They could have had 30' of space that year and we still would have flooded. We will never contain mother nature. I would consider one flood in 65 years to be pretty good "flood...

This kid is THE MAN!!! Almost catched the ND state record bass on video!

Nice!! Good work on the catch...and release. Not many would have released that fish, not sure i even would have. I have a 6.5 lbs from about 10 years ago out there, the only bass I've ever kept from Nelson.

So what would have been an acceptable "pro-active" release for Jan-Mar?

    30000cfs ???

They kind of have to wait until the ice is gone before they can up the flows much. The river south of Bismarck has only been open for two weeks or so and there is still a fairly large sheet of ice as of yesterday from about cattail down across the border.

KVD + Devils Lake = Deadly Combination

Ive caught several walleye on top water while fishing for bass. One was a 26.5" on an original Zara Spook. I have never attempted walleye on the fly-rod cause to be honest it just doesn't sound that fun.

    Cheap fishin

I had some fresh Sakakwea salmon for the first time this year and they were great. After everything i had heard i was really surprised how good they were. Amazing smoked as well. I do need to try trout again and have been tempted to order it a few times out west.

    Cheap fishin

Which is why most trout and bass anglers catch and release.

    Cheap fishin

Could also argue that fly fishing can be the cheapest. A 5wt rod and a pair of waders can get you effectively fishing a lot of world class trout streams. I'm going on a week long trip to ID in June and i wont even spend $500, most of that will be gas money.

lost a hunting buddy and sidekick this week

I feel your pain. I had to unexpectedly put down my 11 year old springer 2 weeks ago. He had been a little weird the last two months and I had taken him in and they couldn't really find anything. I woke up sat morn two weeks ago and he was just laying there drooling and didn't really want to...

    River Water Clarity

I think everyone is used to the past 5 years of no snow and no runoff, As soon the river opened it was clear and fish-able. Is it still completely muddy? i haven't looked in a few days.

    Spinners

Color definitely matters when pulling spinners. We pull spinners almost exclusively during mid-late summer on Sak. We usually start out the day with about 3 completely different colors and almost always one person will catch about 3-4 fish to everybody else's 1, so we all end up switching to...

    electronics question

I don't think you can network any of the Helix 5's, I think the new Gen2 7 can be networked though. Also in your trolling motor transducer i don't think that can be SI/DI, just normal sonar and gps. Id personally also skip the 5 and just go two 7's, I just put a 7di on my boat and wouldn't want...

    Ram mount for trolling motor

Id skip the ram mount and just use a small bungee cord to put some down tension on the shaft to prevent violent bouncing. Its cheap and it works. I'm not a fan of the "rigid mount" that a ram creates on the trolling motor head.
