    I'm pretty sure bear spray deploys differently. I believe it shoots a concentrated stream much further than your standard "human pepper spray". I'm not 100% on this since I don't have real world experience with bear spray. I wouldn't be real privy on needing said bear to get within 10 feet...

    I've never been shot so I don't know what that feels like, but I have been sprayed in the face multiple times with pepper spray. We had to "recertify" to carry it every year. I'll take my chances with getting shot over getting sprayed in the face again. Some people think CS gas is bad...

    Shotguns are WAY more cumbersome to carry would be the reason. Something is better than nothing mentality. Same thing with your CCW. If it's handy to carry, you're more likely to carry it. It does you no good at home in the gun safe.
