Malheur Refuge Takeover Is a Wake-Up Call for American Sportsmen

Bob Marshall is an advocate of the Land Water Conservation Fund whereby oil lease money from the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf is diverted from the US General Fund into the LWCF. The money is used to buy private land and convert it to public land. Bob Marshall wants more federal land...

    Geese

You're right. Most of the big B-52's are not here yet. Quite a few 8 lb. prairie cacklers still here. We are on the south side of lake sak and west side of river. Doing well considering the nice sun shiny days.

    Toby and the Infamous Ban-Hammer!!!

Please don't make reference to Plainsman. That is an invitation for him to nose his way in here under the pretext others are talking about him. Visited with my local game warden couple days ago and we both agreed nodakangler looks great.

Can you stock turkeys on private land?

    Turkeys destroy pheasant nests.

    Snows

I almost froze to death this morning. -2 not counting wind. We didn't have much to shoot at. The dark geese landed a little east of where they were supposed to be. A handful of snows landed by the road and one pick-up stopped and popped. They got one. Good on them.

    Snows

Yep, they were feeding in corn right beside the roost. When they lifted off Audubon, they circled over the water a couple times to get altitude over the firing line. Flew 1/2 mile south and circled several times coming down. Smart buggers. The dark geese migrants are starting to use Lake...

    Snows

Pheasant opened up Monday on Audubon. It was very good. We got game checked and struck up a conversation with the warden. Asked him about the snow geese. He said they had about a 5% hatch and the adults were not decoying at all. At one spot they were right beside the road. Very tempting to do...

The whole posted / unposted land thing in ND should die (includes Poll)

Wags, What I said is, when someone asks me to hunt having a NGO decal in their window, that is when I have my "fun." Then you responded. See how that works? This year I didn't put up any No Hunting signs. My rented farm land is open to hunting but the land I own is all high fence. If...

The whole posted / unposted land thing in ND should die (includes Poll)

You are right KurtR. They shouldn't be lumped together. Members at the local chapters are regular joes. I attend myself. The banquet is a fun night. Good food, drinks and try to win a gun. But when the night is over how many of us pay attention to what the national org is doing? They started...

These non-profits also hand out a free decal with membership. It should be required that members "post" the decal on their windshield. When one of those pulls into my yard, that's when I have my fun.

Feral Pig Sightings Must be Reported

We shot a pile of them in Texas and the best eating was 50 pounds. Friend of mine got a tusker. It was so battle scared, its shoulders were like armor plate. Had to cut behind it and break it over. My friend couldn't make himself eat any of it. Eyexer, even in Texas, it is illegal to trap and...

Feral Pig Sightings Must be Reported

I agree. A couple of us were in Texas and when we started a drive through ravines and catsclaw trees, the pigs were going out the other end before the whitetails. Smart buggers.

Feral Pig Sightings Must be Reported

Here is an interesting discussion, where Greg Link from the ND Game and Fish says, "When you ask the public to assit, it gets to be a real sport." http://www.legis.nd.gov/files/resource/61-2009/library/hb1110.pdf?20151103182620

Feral Pig Sightings Must be Reported

The State of Missouri began having sightings so they enlisted the sportsmen to eradicate the pigs. But the problem grew worse and worse. The State figured it out. Hunters very much enjoy the action and were hauling feral pigs in via stock trailer. Some sportsmen quit hunting deer altogether...

ND once in a lifetime Elk

That is a respectable bull. I would guess him between 326 and 336 SCI. Guy, I noticed the gloves too. The rut is coming and they have pee all over themselves. Chick Magnet.

Worst food I've had in a while

You can never go wrong with The Walrus in Bismarck and their selection of draft beers. Something out of the ordinary is Humpback Sally's two doors east of Peacock Alley. Inexpensive fun food. Small portions, small prices, try many different dishes.

    This wind ...

10% of my corn is broke over. My neighbors have a section of barley that was ripe enough. The wind whipsawed all the beards off and about 40% of the kernals are on the ground.

It seems sunflowers are tougher. Very little damage.
