Gulp Alive is great stuff. Just don't leave the container out in the sun in high heat. It takes on a sickeningly soft consistency and can't be resuscitated back to it's original state. I don't know why but the feel of a heat stressed Gulp Alive minnow grosses me out to no end.

Where you staying? There's a couple brushpiles in the bay out in front of Sunset Cove Resort in 15 feet or so. The slabs stack up on these after they transition away from the shallows. Also try the outer edge of the cabbage beds. Crappies and some dandy gills as well

Can't imagine it'd be the nest of any species in almost 12 feet of water. Smallies generally spawn in less than 5 feet, and they'd be spaced out quite a bit more. Pretty territorial on the beds. My guess?
