    Sheyenne Muskie

My grandson has been hammering musky on the Sheyenne at Valley City. I thought he was kidding me when he first told me, but then he started texting me picks.

    Another school shooting today~

Unfortunately the public schools have more to do with rearing kids than the parents do. They are getting into morals and ethics which is none of their business.

    rattlesnakes~

We spent a couple of days in Nevada's Great Basin. That place has sure got the rattlesnakes. One camper said he changed campsites because of to many rattlesnakes. He said he was only seeing one a day at the campsite we were in. Evidently the Great Basin Rattlesnake is a species only found there.

    Let that sink in!

College was bad enough when I went 48 years ago and it's been rushing down the crapper ever since. When I retired 12 years ago I couldn't believe the crap college grads believed. The only thing worse than the colleges are the fools in Washinton. Backstabbing republicans are really ticking me...

    Spotting Scopes

Kurt my son has had the Swaro scope for I think three years now. My brother has binos, and I have the range finder. I wish I had the bucks for that Swaro equipment. The range finder is so clear and bright I often don't carry binocs when I am out walking and hunting. I keep thinking I don't...

    Spotting Scopes

Angled is great off a small tripod, but I can't find things as quickly when there are few landmarks. I sold both of my angled view and use a taller tripod.

    Favorite meal of the day

It depends on the setting, and how the food is cooked. Relaxed evening meal with good friends and slow cooked beef or pork is hard to beat. Camping with family and cooking breakfast on a 21 inch disk off one of my brother in laws farm implements is good too. There is room to cook onions...

    what a good range finder

They are reduced, but still make 1200 if there is any terrain. If it's perfectly flat and snow white even the very most expensive will only do about 700 to 800 yards. Put a coyote out there and they will pick him out to 1000 yards even on flat ground and snow with bright sun.

    what a good range finder

I think I have had a half dozen Bushnell, three Leica, three Nikon and I still have a Swarovski and a Sig2200. For the most bang for your buck you can't beat the Sig 2200. My Swarovski reaches 1999 yards. Evidently it's not capable of printing more digits. The Sig I have shot to 3415 yards...

    Spotting Scopes

If I had the bucks it would be Swarovski followed by Leica. Nearly as good and much cheaper are the Vortex Razors. Half the price and my eyes are not good enough to see a big difference. I wanted to pack mine so purchased the 60mm rather than the 85mm. So far I really like the scope. I wear...

    New bait caster

I get tired of loosing bottom bouncing rigs so I run 30 lb Spiderwire. I have run it since the year it came out. Some of my line is years old. The infrared heater ate up some while ice fishing, but that's the only Achilles heel I have found for Spiderwire. I think they advertise 6lb...

    Pelican Landing

Rut2much that looks all to familiar. I go talked into that last year and I think the prop on my Mercury kicker was about six inches below the substrate. Like running oatmeal through the impeller. Oatmeal with rocks.

Good News Guys, I'm starting my own conservation group................

I think if it's dry enough the trees need water I don't think the truck will leave ruts. Here on Pipestem they really cut deer damage by simply using those white plastic sleeves. I would think if you come up with a name as suggested (Public Land Volunteers) one could go to stores NRCS etc...

    Reloading for first timer

I went through 150 rounds of Creedmoor last week. I keep this up I'll need a new barrel in two years. Right now I am playing with the Nosler 130 RDF. I don't know why I bother when the 143 ELD-X already groups under .2 inches. I think the reason I have been shooting so much is that I have...

Fargo area - youth conservation projects/programs?

When I was scoutmaster one of the boys did this very thing for his Eagle Scout Badge. For things like that sometimes the trees will be donated. For example Ladish Malting here in Jamestown donated material for my sons Eagle Scout Badge project. Another group donated nesting boxes for my...

    Trail Cams Are Addicting

I have six. I have only ever used them to check on deer for my grandson. Otherwise I run them around my yard. Twice they have been used for evidence in court. They have saved me about $10K. This week-end I took one along to watch the campsite while hunting turkeys in the Badlands. We run...
