Buying A Tiny Piece of Heaven

I have my heart set on two areas: either east of New Rockford or somewhere in SE ND. I deer hunt public land by the first choice, and I used to hunt ducks and grouse frequently there, too, when I lived in Grand Forks. Now that I'm in Fargo, that's a bit further than I like to travel on a...

What did you have for points coming into ghost drawing and did it work for you

2 points 2F1 - Buck I saw five bucks last year in the first couple hours before I saw the doe that got a free ride home with me. So I'm sure this year there will be a bumper doe crop and nary a buck to be found.

Buying A Tiny Piece of Heaven

Still need to buy a piece of land to put the sod on. Yeah, honestly I don't even need/desire acreage out in the middle of nowhere. A lot-sized chunk in some dead and/or dying town would suit me just fine.

    Lottery Results are in!!

I didn't think this was very funny...but to see how riled some folks get, well, that makes me chuckle.

Buying A Tiny Piece of Heaven

I've been daydreaming about owning a tiny little parcel somewhere that would someday be our family basecamp. Obviously, if I were living in lala land, I'd shoot for the moon and pick up a couple 40s so that we had someplace to really stretch our legs. But realistically, I'd like to own...

Where are Ginger and Mary Ann when you need them?

That looks like a ND duck slough slaughter wagon. Hey, there you go: SS Slaughter Wagon. You're welcome.

    Lottery in process!!!

Well, tags increased this year, but that could change. I imagine if we get to the hypothetical I opined earlier in this thread, a point-purchase process may be the only choice. Tags would be so coveted, and chances so extremely low, it would be the only way to keep revenue up and actually have a...

    Lottery in process!!!

Where did I say anything about want? Sometimes stuff happens and folks have to miss deer season. If that was the case, you could still get a point for when you can hunt again. I know they carry over for a year even if you don't apply, but this way you could at least add to your chances for when...

    Lottery in process!!!

That was my point. Would be a good way to loophole the point preference thing if you couldn't hunt for a year or two. Just apply for a zone you are guaranteed to not get a tag, and virtually "buy" a point for another season.

    Lottery in process!!!

Is this common knowledge in those areas? So you could apply there and basically just be pissing into the wind because there is literally zero chance of getting a tag. Ever. Well, if someone wanted a coveted tag in another zone, that would be a good loophole to rack up preference points! I...

    Lottery in process!!!

Hypothetical situation: Deer populations tank. Hard. To the point that the G&F only issues about 30K tags. There are about 30K gratis tags. Would that mean that nobody would get a tag except for landowners??

    Bow Hunting 101 (For Beginners)

Just to go Scheels and ask for the guys mentioned above. Although, even for a cheap setup, I don't see you getting out the door with everything you need for under $750.

    Bow Hunting 101 (For Beginners)

Get your draw length figure out and then just buy an entire archery setup off Craigslist for peanuts. I swear, someone is unloading the whole works every week on there. You can pick up stuff for cheap. That's what I'd do if I was ever starting from scratch again. Unless you think you're really...

    Roughrider Gamebird Taxidermy???

Don't apologize. I would have given the exact same advice had I not started to hear more and more horror stories. Plain and simple, Rick mounts one of the prettiest birds in the country. The fact he's basically given a giant one-finger salute to customers is nobody's fault but his own.

    Roughrider Gamebird Taxidermy???

Amen to all the above! What gets me is he went on a trip of a lifetime to shoot king eiders, and then turned around and mounted them darn near immediately. Meanwhile, paying customers have their trophy birds deteriorating in his freezer. And he has time for fishing and tournaments and...

    Chokecherries

Well gee....didn't realize my sheltered lifestyle was enough to get negative rep. Thanks, I guess? No, I've never had chokecherry syrup, nor had I heard of it until today. Are you talking about those trees that are all over fargo that drop little red berries on the sidewalk and make it slick...
