    Trapping Frogs

Brian - what time of year? I was thinking this was related to the fall migration, but would be an awesome trick if not....as much as I love the outdoors it's a time sink to chase Kermit with a butterfly net.

    Trapping Frogs

I saw the pic....like I said, candy any time of the year, but now that the water is cool finally these will hopefully bring some piggy sumos to the end of my rod! I put the traps back out, not thinking they'll do much - must have been perfect timing but a guy can hope!

    Trapping Frogs

So....a first for me. Never thought it possible. I set a few minnow traps in a small creek overnight and water was dropping rapidly so when I checked them the end of them were sticking out of the water. Low and behold, when I pulled them up they were loaded with frogs! I'm guessing they were...

    Useful Stuff and Useless knowlege

Well known, but useful, trick. Hold your hand up with fingers horizontally. Place bottom finger on the horizon and for every finger width between the horizon and sun you have 15 minutes until the sun sets.

    Salamanders for Catfish

Salamanders don't work. If you happen to catch some, give them to me and I'll dispose of them for you. NO charge. I have my personal best catfish on salamander in late November on the Sheyenne. I've caught numerous cats and eyes on salamander in the fall - amphibians make the pilgrimage to...

    Television Options

I have Midco.....4 years and never had them raise the bill. I'm in Casselton, not sure that matters. One thing to be said about them is OUTSTANDING customer service. Technical problem, bill, etc. they have always taken care of me and done it with a smile.

    Strangest things you've ever eaten?

Guinea Pig - delicacy in Peru apparently. Too bad I didn't speak much Spanish, but it ended up tasting like chicken. Go figure.

    Strangest thing you've ever caught...

Fishing the Red alone one day, I hooked into a MONSTER fish. I couldn't turn it to save my life and ended up pulling the anchor to chase it. Adrenaline had me shaking so hard, I fought this thing for a good 30 minutes. HUGE fish - had to be a record cat. Turns out 15 lb carp fight like a jet...

    Eating Drum from the Red

Cooter - what do you do with the ear rocks? Wonder if my wife would notice they aren't pearls.....jewelry?

    Eating Drum from the Red

I'm mercury intolerant, but the rest of my family seems to do ok with heavy metals. Where are the consumption reports you've read? There is the other end of the spectrum that says the Red is one of the cleanest rivers in US.

    Eating Drum from the Red

Soaked it in a saltwater and tish of vinegar brine overnight....not fishy, just not exactly what my family has been spoiled with. We don't keep many fish, but when we do I cook the heck out of it. We were on a mission that night to have a fish fry the next day. I'll try Sprite next time -...

    Eating Drum from the Red

I've heard a guy can do this, so I tried. I'd love to lie and tell you it was as tasty as walleye or catfish and that I won't be keeping anything but drum from now on, but it's just not true. Not bad - much like white bass - but not great. Now I can say I've done it. Fillets just like a...

    Body found in Red

Unusually high rate of people in the Red from year to year - agreed. Don't ever want to run into one that's for sure!

    Body found in Red

Authorities have identified the 78 year old man as Kristopher Kringle and say Christmas may be in jeopardy this year....a suspicious hole in his back is under further investigation. Preliminary guesses point to someone on the naughty list, but all possibilities are being explored. Sorry...
