    Trap gun

Thanks for all the input fellas, it will be interesting to see what he eventually chooses, and how it affects his trap scores.

    Trap gun

OK, so it looks like my 14 yr old, 5' 10", 180 lb son is going to soon be shopping for a new trap shooting shotgun. What is the current standard for trap guns? Why go away from a hunting platform? There are certainly guns at the trap range that are not hunter platforms. Just curious here...

    Venison Jerky

No, that's the good stuff!!!! Ok, but if you want to reduce the "stick", you will have to reduce the sweet and flavor (teriyaki, soy, etc)

    Venison Jerky

I too have been using the High Mountain jerky kits to make roughly 1/4 inch thick whole muscle jerky. I use both the sweet and spicey version and their terriyaki flavored packs. The only thing I add to it is a generous helping of cayenne pepper, that brings the heat that I seek. Unless...

    Compound bows for beginners

With that large of a budget, I'd just go to Scheels or Runnings and have them outfit me with a recent trade-in.

    Sheepshead fish.

I was just a teenaged peon, working for what was called Grasteit Dakota Fishery out of New Town. The big city fish markets had a distributor who bought the fish from Grasteit by the truck load. I think the distributor was located in St Louis and they would distribute out to the fish markets in...

    Thansgiving Day Raccoon Roast Anyone?

Butcher Block is an excellent place to find something new or at least different. I picked up some cheese buttons from there yesterday and plan on having some for lunch today.

    Thansgiving Day Raccoon Roast Anyone?

Damn, I would not have guessed how behind the times I am. CGH's were a mere whim, and then I found out how tough they were to find in the Bismarck area. After 3 grocery stores and 3 butcher shops, I finally found them in Mandan at Butcher Block meats. Today was a shitty day to be grocery...

    Stock.refinish?

Damn! I can see why you want to refinish it. One trick you will want to use since this will most likely be a hand rubbed finish is to attach a string to the pieces of the stock so it can hang while drying.

    Thansgiving Day Raccoon Roast Anyone?

No coon for me, I'm making Cornish Game Hens this year. Figured I'd try something new.

    Stock.refinish?

Now that we are done with the wood refinishing stuff, are you sure you want to do it? Reason I ask is because I watch a LOT of Pawn Stars and other shows that would suggest if you are in the possession of a firearm that may have significant value, YOU WILL KILL THE VALUE if you mess with the...

    Final Day tomorrow: 3A1

I humbly disagree, filling the tag immediately turns one of my favorite hobbies into work. Field dressing, dragging, and cutting up the deer are by far my least favorite parts of hunting. And it gets worse every year.

    Stock.refinish?

Tru Oil is good, and if I remember correctly it's just another variation on good old fashioned tongue oil, which is my preferred. I did a new stock a couple years ago for my 25-06 and it turned out really well using Tru Oil. The key here is prep, sand the stock well to remove scratches, dings...

    Anyone make pemmican?

I've eaten a ton of pemmican over the years, just not recently. While it tends to be a little plain on taste, one can jazz it up with cayenne, etc. This article though had me going WTF? "Though most classic pemmican recipes require the use of meat and fat, it is also possible to make it...

    Sak water temps

Just curious if anyone has been out the past few days and could tell me what water temps they ran across in the main part of the Sakakawea. Anyone been out lately?

    hair on elk cape

Most taxidermist shops will flesh, salt, and ship your hide for you. It's been a few years since I ran one through Dakota Taxidermy here in Bismarck (I don't know if they still help, or not), but it was about $270 for the full hide. And like I said, it's been a few years. I have also sent...
