    Where to stay?

Sorry, I think I know some of the people that were responsible for their first installment some 30+ years ago. ;:;boozer

It's really tough to kill thistle this time of year. Best time to kill thistle is early June when it's only about 6-12 inches tall, I forget what they refer to it as the stage of development. Milestone is a good one for going after thistle...

    Missouri River rise

No, currently at 1853.14 MSL, which is 0.02 (within measurement error when you include wind) of yesterday's 1853.16 ft above MSL. - - - Updated - - - Whew!

    Missouri River rise

Whoa, your groundwater is up 12 feet? That sounds more like a broken water main than a corresponding rise with the river. Yeah, the erosion is certainly ongoing, but I don't know if I think it's better or worse now than when the river was at 11-12.5 ft. It seemed like it was out of control...

    Missouri River rise

Just curious here, but what "concerns" do you have in mind? We are still some 1.25 ft below the local definition of flooding, are their significant impacts I'm not aware of at these levels?

Those of you who missed out on last night's weather, have no fear. Tonight will give you another shot at some of the summer fun stuff.

    lake trout

Yes, I think some of the native trout species are in trouble because the introduced ones are eating them. I read/heard that while out at Yellowstone a few years ago.

    Snakebite vaccine for dogs

Right! I was down at Beaver several weeks ago. Saw a few really large bullsnakes patrolling the shoreline. One of the poor bastards got caught by what i can only refer to as the local hillbilly reps. Sure enough they killed it for no damn reason and then stood around taking pics with the...

    Missouri River rise

I had a convo with someone early yesterday about the incoming rain. Basically wondering if I was concerned about it. I said, naw....not so long as a 4-6 inch storm doesn't track lengthwise down Sak. Oh for fucks sake!

People get dumB when it comes to antlers. And yes, not only is that a capitol "b", it's not silent either.

    Missouri River rise

Without looking, I would guess the equation for the stage-rating curve, which generally goes in the form of "y = mx + b" has been shifted by updating the "b" due to the measurement. This is common, but until someone tells me the physical process by which the river is now losing a couple thousand...

    Missouri River rise

The flow measurements are all human collected, granted they use a lot of high tech stuff nowadays. Stop referring to it as a "drop" in flow, it's simply within the accuracy of the measurement. There's nothing to be gained by thinking there's actually 3k less cfs in the river, or more for that...

    Missouri River rise

That is how it's done. You have a tub of known (to a couple of sig figs) volume. How fast it fills is how you calculate inflow. Quite simply, there is not a gage on every tributary. Plus, if it rains right on top of the lake, that too has to be accounted for as it is a direct contributor.

    Missouri River rise

Yes, just like in 2011, I would expect to see some "settling" of the river stage as it spends time at a given discharge. I have no issues with the advertised discharge values. 5% of 60,000 is 3,000 cfs. I am ok with that, although the techs that collected the measurement would likely be...

I believe the advertised accuracy of the USGS measurement technique is 5%. Or, it was the last time I checked.

Huh, mine here in Buleigh are also just starting to turn. They aren't the native ones tho.

    Missouri River rise

Ah, so it does. The posted image I used is the past 30 days. While it would still seem there's a bit of a leap between the two, yours uses current month (from the 1st to whatever day it's posted), from first of year to now, and from beginning of water year (Oct 1) to now statistics. So they...

    Missouri River rise

That I can't answer for you, other than this isn't a Great Falls area problem. It's been a Billings problem until last week when Great Falls seemed to get jealous and kick it in gear.

    floaters...

Yep, there are some dandy logs floating, and some that are neutral buoyant. The latter are scary as hell when you're up on plane.
