I also do as Ahab. There will be water on the impeller after you take it out of the water to keep it from turning dry (think wiper blade on windshield. I have never had an impeller issue since my first boat in 1995.
I have at least 8 rods in my boat at all times and up to 12. Depends on how much time on the water and how I plan to fish for the day. 2 or 3 jig rods, 2 bobber rods, 2 bottom bouncer rods (bait casters) and 2 line counter (crank rods).
I say rod in most situations. I have some really good rods (both store bought and custom made) with OK reels. I catch more fish jigging a really good rod because of sensitivity.
I myself have had that issue. I found that the convenient times in my schedule tend to be the worst weather. I now find the worst times to go for my schedule, tend to be the best weather. I think the more work that goes into rearranging my schedule, pleases the weather and fish gods!
