DIY Duracoat - It can be done

That is cool. I like the distressed look.

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

I'm using Duarcoat, which is much different from cerekote. It cleans up nicely with laquer thinner. Then I spray a small amount of duracoat reducer through it. After several jobs, my airbrush still looks and performs like new.

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

Like most things, it's all about the prep work. Get it good and clean and rough it up a bit and the adhesion is excellent on most surfaces. In my research, some plastics can be problematic. My brother had his AR done a few years back. He taped a ballistics dope sheet to the stock with clear...

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

Sure thing. ARs are definitely more time consuming than a bolt gun, but not bad, at least to do one solid color. Where it gets really tedious is doing a specific camo pattern with a stencil. As long as it's done within a few days, you can spray one color over another, so doing freehand camo...

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

Some more tips for the aspiring duracoater: -- Non-chlorinated brake cleaner works as well as any other degreaser. -- I recommend the Tactical Ultra Flat colors of Duracoat. They are, well... ultra flat, perfect for hunting weapons. -- Spraying over moving parts is usually ok. For...

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

Yeah, I'm not much of an artist, but I can run an airbrush over a stencil. To do anything fancy, I would recommend getting some vinyl stencils. They're pretty cheap on Amazon or Ebay. The adhesive-backed ones are really one-use only, but they give you the sharpest lines.

DIY Duracoat - It can be done

I'd like to start this post by thanking Slim aka: Bed Wetter for giving me the inspiration. He showed me his duracoat rattlecan job and knew I could do better ;). You need a decent airbrush, a good degreaser, and a lot of patience. Here's a few things I've done over the last few months. My...

    Suppressor Questions

The turn around time and expense on sending it to Sioux Falls would be a bit prohibitive for me. Threading a barrel is a pretty common gunsmith task that just about any competent smith with the right equipment should be able to do. I'd call a few places in your area. I recently got my 7mm...

    Christensen Arms Mesa

There seems to be a few different threads of thought here: 1. Christensen Arms Mesa -- the main sexiness for me about Christensen is the carbon fiber wrapped barrel. This one doesn't have that, so it loses all appeal. I think you could buy a Rem or a Savage, throw on a decent stock, have as...

    Gun guys??

I'm surprised we made it this far with only one mention of 6.5 Creedmoor. That's a hot little number that has pretty much made the 308 obsolete in comp shooting. And it will kill any animal in NA good and dead. Yes, gun and ammo selection is a little behind some of the more common (old)...

Looking for new stock for Remington 700

I’m looking for a better stock for my Remington 700 – 7mm Rem Mag. This will be used for some long-range bench shooting, but also some hunting. Criteria: -Long Action -Integrated bedding block -Not crazy heavy -$400 or less – there is some stupid-expensive stuff out there… -Left Handed –...

Badger: what should I do with it?

Unless I had an unusually special experience around it (like it tried to eat my face and I killed it with my bare hands), I would go throw it in a ditch or dumpster. ...but I admit a full-body mount could be bad-ass if done correctly.

    What was your 'Hillary' purchase?

That goes with the 150gr TTSX in my 7mm Rem Mag. I can get that combo to shoot about half moa, but not as fast as I'd like (I know, the quest for velocity can be a foolish trap). I'm also exploring combinations of those with RL22 and 162 ELDX and various seating depths, so I have plenty to keep...

    What was your 'Hillary' purchase?

Picked up 1200 rounds of 223 and stocked up on enough powder, primers and bullets to last at least 4 years -- unless I start shooting a lot more, which would be nice. I got those Fiocchi 223 for 45 cents a round, which is pretty good for a polymer tip boat tail, and those dry boxes are a...

    New state record bighorn

In the video -- which is awesome btw -- I hear him say 329 (yards I suppose) and then 1.3 (I'm guessing MOA come-up on the scope). I'm also interested about the gun, caliber, bullet / load, etc. It helps to complete my vicarious experience of the hunt.;:;bowdown
