    South Dakota giant poached

Either it was in the fence while still alive, or the guy tossed a headless deer corpse over a game fence just to mess with the owner. - - - Updated - - -

    Snow Fences

Would a person be correct if they assumed that roadway to the north is somewhat elevated above your driveway? If so, you're pretty much screwed.

    South Dakota giant poached

If you want a chuckle, look up Dugan Traversie on Facebook. He's gotten quite a few interesting comments on his own FB page, which is public. https://www.facebook.com/dugan.traversie

    Snow Geese

Yep, just drove to Jamestown from Bismarck, and back. Snows and Blues were seen about every 15 miles.

Hockey and observations from a midlife crisis

I had quite a few hockey players in the intro to geology labs I taught while at UND. The starting players and those that eventually went on to the NHL were good students as a rule. There were always a few meatheads that showed up at UND just to get attention and try to make it to the pros...

Hockey and observations from a midlife crisis

Might I suggest moving to a higher end neighborhood? The savings in hockey expenses will be greater than the increased mortgage.

    First Ice - Predictions

Outlooks for early November keep us on the cool side of life, damnit. My pond was about 3/4 frozen over this morning. She should have 100% coverage by tomorrow morning, which is way, way too early. While I like that farmers will be able to drive in their fields and get some crops off, this...

    Daylight saving time

Wait, so they're saying that it doesn't matter if I'm driving in CDT vs CST when it comes to fuel efficiency of my vehicles? Get outta here!

    Cool birds

I haven't seen whoopers in a few years, but had pretty good luck running across them in the early 2000s. I had a flock of 3 or 4 within 3 ft of my windshield one time in a fog on I-29. Lucky for my windshield we escaped contact!

    Favorite cold or flu symptom

Let's remember that the true flu is a respiratory disease, not a stomach bug. I've had the flu graduate from a bad cough to a collapsed lung from coughing so often/hard. Once you've done that you will get the shot, every...single...year.

    Thoughts on recurves?

If you look around there are inexpensive recurves that fit the bill. In particular, I'm thinking of the fiberglass variety. Instinctive shooting is so much more fun than the bestest compound bows. Something like this will fling an arrow farther than most backyards will allow...

    Tree Rats

I've heard the silver/gray squirrels are better than the red ones, and the premo squirrel is the Foxtail. I have not yet tried them. I do have about 2 dozen of the red bastages in storage at my place. I would just need to go shoot them.

    New Salem Gun Auction

Looks like there will be online bidding, so depending on how well advertised this is the may be bidders from all across the country. - - - Updated - - - Right! It's like a fricking contest. I think the worst I've ever seen is the NDGF's RAP auction. In that case though I half wonder if...

An Arkansas hunter killed Tuesday by a deer

While I have a tough time being afraid of a WT or MD, I am just smart enough to be damn afraid of moose and cattle.

    Snow Geese

I was up north of Fessenden last Wednesday and saw a fair number of snows and blues. They were swimming around in a bean field eating their fill.

    Drain Sakakawea

Not that I've heard. I have heard that some salmon and walleye that were tagged up in Sak have been caught downstream of the dam though.

    Drain Sakakawea

OK, so if this is intended to be informational, let me chime in here real quick on the status of the Missouri River. Here's the hydrograph for Bismarck since March 1st of this year. Despite being able to keep the Bis/Man area below Flood Stage, you can see they've been running the river...

    Drain Sakakawea

30 days before the "declaration" of a flood in progress is the deadline for insurance. Lots of people got waylaid by this in 2011 when they bought insurance in April, got their property wet in June, and were told their insurance wasn't purchased in time because the flood declaration began in...

Saw The First Rut Behavior Today
