    winter solstice

    I like winter for a little while. Calling coyotes and ice fishing. But the short days are depressing. Go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. The years where we have an actual winter from November until April take years off of my life.

    New ice rod case

    I bought a Plano square bow case and added foam to it. I can get a solid 10 rod and reel combos in it. Foam on bottom 5 rods foam in between and another foam on top. Makes for a nice tight fit.

    I am definitely not a waterfowl hunter and have never had duck. I have had goose, flavor was decent but it was very dry. After seeing the post of the duck that is rare. How do you get away with not cooking a bird all the way through? I must be missing something.

    Moose is king as far as 4 legged creatures. Elk and Antelope are also good. Deer is probably the worst but still good if you know what you are doing. Anything you shot and cleaned and prepared all by yourself is always better.

    I have both. Berkley micro ice and I also have quite a few rods with Fireline Crystal on them. I always put around a 20 inch mono leader on the fireline. Both seem to work fine.

    Scope replacement

    I have a couple of Vortex Vipers 4-16x44. They are around $500. I really like them. Put the first one on my .243 Ackley for coyotes. Have not made a decision for the 2nd one yet. Either .270 WSM or .240 Weatherby. I probably will not buy any other kind of scope again I like it so much.
