    I've had a few discussions on shooting velvet bucks and the topic of velvet adding or subtracting from trophy quality always seems to come up. I myself have never shot a velvet buck, so given the choice between a 120's velvet deer and a 140's hard horned deer, I'd draw down on the velvet buck...

    Should have my 5 lbs of flocking tomorrow to touch up the deks, hitting the grain fields for some fresh straw camo for the blind, and taking an ammo inventory. I've seen my fair share of geese flying around so hopefully find a few to knock down on opener.

    Sunflower fields with blackbirds in'em are about the best training I can think of for target acquisition, tracking, and trigger discipline. Not to mention honing those all important gun safety practices. Just don't run out of ammo. Have Fun!!!

    Ground Blind

    Build a brush pile along the fence that is big enough and tall enough to hide your blind. The deer should be used to seeing that brush pile and accept the addition of a blind quicker. The other option is to build a permanent blind on the fence line. I see those in MN all the time.

    Yeah, I knew what you meant, but those no good terrorists and suicide bombers only get as technical as they have to be. In Afghanistan, they were using catapults made from car springs to lob grenades and such at us from behind walls. Pretty "Stone Age" but it still worked.
