Sak Salmon

Has anyone been out yet this year or heard of any luck? Been itchin to get out

Spent Saturday on the water just along the dam drinking and swimming off of a buddies pontoon. Saw about 5 boats in the area.
Did not see anyone hook up, or talk to any of them, but they were out there.
Water is about 72* surface temp along there, so the swimming was refreshing on a 95* day

Sorry these aren’t Sak salmon, but the Kenai is having on once in a generation run. 600,000 sockeye hit the river in 5 days. We weren’t planning on going down b/c we’re headed down for 5 days starting this Thursday; but when we saw the numbers piling up last Thursday, my wife talked me into going.

Limit was bumped to 6. Came home with our possession limit of 24. It took less than an hour to limit out each day. Just unreal. I’m guessing they’ll bump the limit to 9 by this weekend but my freezers are FULL.

Does anyone have an idea where these fish are now? Or are they just teleported in on August 1st? With todays sonar idk understand why it’s only a month bite window.

Scattered.... Too much cold water available yet. Lake needs to warm up an force the smelt into the deep end of the pool where the only 55 degree will be.

It's strange there isn't a longer bite up there. On Oahe, the bite has been going above the dam in the normal salmon areas since late May. It ebbs and flows but there has been some good fishing.

You can catch salmon from ice out til fall on Sak. Just need to follow them like you follow any other fish
