40 yrs ago we worried about food, shelter, and clothing ! Now days we worry about phones, tv, internet, viruses, isis, traffic lights, farmer joe, trespassers, idiots! (Lots of them) and impeaching whoever gets in our way of our beliefs !!! Does no one mind there own business today or is it all about one for all and all for none???? Because I highly doubt 99% of today’s population could live off the land like us 1%’rs ??? I’d highly doubt they would even have the slightest idea how to shelter them selves let alone feed and clothe themselves ! Shit is for real people it’s in the Bible read it!!! The world is on its way out so work as much as you can make all that money so you have know where to spend it on your death beds ! I’ll be fishing !!!! ✌️

Huh...40 years ago people were snorting coke, smoking weed, and rockn n rolling. I think you forgot a 0. Oh, and people were saying the same thing back when they invented the automobile and telegraph.

Haha makes 1980 sound like 1780. Some one has had to much fireball in the ice shack while worrying about the kung flu. The Bible says go back to the days of disco and cocain. Missed that part

I think the idea was we thought about important things in the past when there was no guarantee of the important things. Today by the same standards we are well taken care of and so now think about the more frivolous things. We have become so spoiled we think the frivolous things are the important things. Some would skip a meal, but not checking facebook every hour. Some like children think only of today as if tomorrow will never come. I think they call them liberals.

I also think RPNLPS was trying to say build up your treasure where moths and rust will not destroy it. :)

RPNLPS one of my hobbies is wild edible plants and wild medicines. I have an old 1896 publication called the herbalist. Even many of our modern medicines come from plants. For example digitalis which is used for the heart originally was found in milkweed. It's what makes monarch butterfies poisonous to birds. The larvae pick up digitalis feeding on milkweed. When they pupate then emerge they still have concentrations of digitalis. If a bird eats them their heart rate increases rapidly and they either regurgitate or their heart explodes. There are many more cures out there in our natural world, we simply have not found them yet. lets hope those plants are not extinct before we find them.

I think if a person was to feed their family without a seeds or garden and relying strictly on wild food it would take an entire section of land (native prairie) to feed a family of four. If you fed heavily on starch you could feed a family of four on an acre of cattail, but healthy 640 acres approx.

Your right KDM many subjects here. Where to start?

Edit: By the way RPNLPS did you ever do this: go to the granary when you got home from school and put a pint of wheat in a quart jar, then fill with water shake and drain. Do that three times, then fill with water and let set over night. In the morning boil it like rice. With milk and brown sugar it was delicious.

Wow, somebody lives in a small world. Try going somewhere new and meeting new people. The world isn't as bad off as social media makes it seem. Also, get off your high horse about being a bad ass from the 70's. You think too much of yourself and don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt. What a sad life to live in fear, pride, contempt...I agree that a lot of people would die if we turned off the "technology" light. But c'mon man, the negativity isn't needed. What would you do to try and make sure not as many people died? Fish? Hopefully to give fish to some poor starving soul. People need to stop reading social media and making it the way the whole world is. Because it's not. Not only did generations after yours survive, they made living so much better. We no longer have spend all our time checking traps and patching sod roofs. We have time to focus on other things, like helping others or inventing the next machine that detects cancer sooner, or any new thing that makes life more enjoyable for so many. Especially the ones that are in need...

I suppose you'd like to go back to the days where there isn't any money? Like trade and barter days? WE WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN FOOD AND SHELTER IF IT WASN'T FOR MONEY. (Not yelling, just trying to get a point across...)

Oh and, not everyone is as selfish as you think they are. In fact, I'd argue that there are more people willing to help others in this world than not. It's your bubble man...There are a ton of these good people on this site. I don't personally know any of them, but if I was in a bad way I know some here would do what they can to help me. Not that I ask for much when I'm in need, but the fact that I have faith in them helps...

I believe firmly in the second coming of Christ, and I don't see how working for money, and getting lots of it, is going to stop me from being spiritually prepared for it. If I have more money, I can do so much more with myself in helping others, and still be able to help others while I get money. As long as I'm surrounded by people, I can be a positive aspect in their lives, no matter what I'm doing. Life is all about serving others. All the money we make, all the time we have, all the talents we have, are given to us so we can help each other along the path of life. All in preparation for the second coming. Christ's coming isn't about doom and gloom, if you're in the right place spiritually. And again, there are a lot more people out there that are genuinely good people. Pop the bubble man...

That's liberal church world view. Remember all have fallen short? Comparatively from a world standpoint I understand what your saying and even agree, but from a Biblical view we are all rotten as hell and deserve hell saved only by the sacrifice at the cross. My intention isn't to pick on you, but remember the scripture that says you would be better to have a millstone tied about your neck and cast into the sea than lead one of mine astray? That part of scripture leads me to believe hell will have a high population of liberal pastors.

Pick away! I agree 100% that we are all fallen and in need of atonement. That's why it is so important to focus on all the good we can and serve others with what we have. Get to the best place you can spiritually, physically, emotionally and dare I say it, financially so you can serve and love others along the way. We aren't perfect, and we need to remember that always. Do everything you can with what you have, and the Lord will help make up the difference in the end. That is one of the reasons we are here...

BP338 I agree as long as giving is voluntary and not giving with other people's money. Give as you wish, but only as you are a joyful giver, and not as a false do good taking from one person and giving to another thinking you have done good.

PG Who was the author ? We picked up a few old medical books over the years and they are fun to page through. Some are worth quite a bit and others not so much, One is a detailed medicine making recipe book that is pretty rare. Its amazing to me how prevalent cannabis and other herbs and plants were back then and with such a wide variety of medical applications. The medical industry was so much more naturopathic back then but now days if you even mention naturopathy or medical marijuana to most doctors they get pissy about it . The medical industry has changed the wording and meaning of the Hippocratic Oath to meet their financial goals. Have you ever heard of Thomas Hansen the bird carver from your neck of the woods ?

Rpnlps, History usually repeats itself in time, It's not guaranteed that 40 yrs from now we won't once again be worried about food, shelter, and clothing! Maybe in 140 years , Maybe longer .. could also happen in 2020 . Not likely but not impossible. That style of thinking is akin to thinking about dying , Nothing to worry about as long as you are prepared. I make sure I am up to date with all my shots. Flue shot should be a choice just like medical marijuana. Hoping the Gurneys catalog comes soon , Cabin fever is real.
