I'd like to see a really good dog retrieve in some of the stuff I hunt. For example, we knocked a bird down off the edge of a field where a finger comes up from the river. It went over the edge down a ravine I'd need a rope to get down and I'd never get up. Or find one in chest thick cover on the river bottom where there's no end and it goes down where there were just a couple hundred birds.

Different kind of hunting but these dogs are badass!! Seen it first hand. You do NOT want one after you!!

Its great watching those dogs work, but I really do feel for them. Put into a predicament to take down a cartel person or whatever, they wouldn't hesitate to shoot the helpless dog, hopefully wouldn't happen.

Mine did that last weekend. Chest high in a slough. Shot one other marked it no way dog could see it. Got half way there he brought me the bird. Most of these dogs will never upland hunt. Completely contradictory to all the training

I understand what you’re saying, however I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt, they would die happy. That’s no bullshit!!! If I could somehow bottle their Esprit De Corps and feed it to American soldiers and Marines, we would be unstoppable! Absolutely DEVASTATING!!

No fear.

A dog goes downwind of a bird and finds them all the time. So a dog finding a down bird is nothing special. That's how dogs find birds

If they can see and if there is any wind which last Sunday there was no wind it was hot and he could not see the bird. But either way having guided for pheasants for 15 years I might have seen a dog find one or two. A quad with a couple retired birds and a few re entries is more impressive than running around finding pheasants they stumble fuck onto.

If I had the time getting a bite dog top of the list . A jet black Dutch shepherd. I love watching the bite games and learn a lot from those trainers their level of control is remarkable.
