Grandson got a used 2018 1500 Silverado in 2021 with 30,000 miles on it with the 5.3 motor. Presently it has about 70,000 miles. It started to make a serious knocking noise. Took it to his local Chevy garage and they replaced the water pump. Okay not a big deal. Prior to my BB150 I have had 4 Chevys all with the 5.3. I ran those 4 all slightly over 150.000 miles. Never a water pump. What happened to his? Did he get a Lemon? Is there an additive that you should add to the cooling system?

Thanks in advance for any and all answers!

5.3 is gay. It's a 327. Per original query--Shit happens. I wouldn't worry too much right now...

Iv'e never heard of a water pump knocking or imagine how it could, at least without leaking through the tattle tail. I would have asked for the old one just to find out how and why .

Has he had to put much into it since 2021 that wasn't routine maintenance? Did replacing the water pump fix the problem?
