I don't think people are at all upset about getting a notification-but the ungodly sound my phone made at 330 am and then again an hour later that sent my heart into a different rythem is not the way to do it. I'm suggesting a silent alert during certain hours or something along them lines. That way when we arise from a restful nights sleep, we can notice and read the details about the alert and keep an eye out for the suspected vehicle instead of wondering weather or not we should see a cardiologist........

Or just turn off the alert.

For everyone bitching about having the amber alert going off in the middle of the night and ruining your night how about to the parents or family or friends that this will now affect and the sleepless nights all of those people now have to go through. To everyone who bitched and moaned about this and said you'll be turning it off all i can say is your a selfish fucking person and if you have no compassion for a 1 year old little girl than you deserve a kick in the fucking face. Hope you all have a great night sleep tonight. Fucking worthless

The beauty of getting up at 3 am to go to work is that the alert didn't wake me up. The sound was startling but like was said before, I'd gladly give up one full night's rest to be aware of the alerts. This is the first one i've ever gotten in the middle of the night that I can ever remember. Seems like a small price to pay considering time is usually of the essence. God bless to all of you who said you'll leave the alert on. I also thank you on behalf of my 3 kids...can't imagine the anguish a parent must go through when their child is missing.

It woke me up twice I'm 3.5 miles from the nearest highway didn't bother me a bit. I said prayer hoping she would be found. I would never disable my phone. I have 5 small grandchildren and thank God we have a system like this to help. So please don't disable your phones!

Enough with the BS attack posts.

Trying to lay guilt on people who couldn't have possibly helped change the outcome, who are top notch individuals in their families and communities, and complained about the process - not the intent, is low brow. Take a hike you opportunistic jerks.

It is what it is.. I guarantee if your kid was murdered and there was a amber alert you woulden't be concerned about people being woke up....this post started as people whining about waking up early to this.. maybe these people need a little humility.
First thing he does is post about how he got woke up early and he's tired
This has infuriated me throughout the night., and everybody just talks about ways to be in convinced Or Avoid It For That mattter

They could, and should, improve the system so it's both effective and doesn't cause sleep deprivation - which can and does kill innocent people
too BTW.

I was 3,000 miles away so my alarm didn't go off, so I'm not being defensive for myself.

You tell me what the hell the majority of the population was gonna do to resolve this matter receiving a text message in the middle of the night while they were sound asleep. I just see absolutely no sense in this!!

How they don't know the area people who sign up to get the alert are from. If it is that big of an ass ache either don't get the notification or turn the phone off at night.

I didn't say an alert shouldn't go out, but it could go out without scaring people who aren't in a position to help. Maybe display-only (no sound) during certain hours, or vibrate only... The technology is there.

I feel no shame BTW. Does that make you feel empty inside knowing you aren't shaming me?

I'm signed up. Why didn't mine go off?

Mine has gone off on all previous/recent alerts. Why not this one?

You are out of the area code. I get them here for Sioux falls happenings. But when I am so far out of area k don't. Really the phone ringing at night is that big of a deal I just turn it off and go back to sleep.

Here you go Mr. KnowsItAll.

"Because the alerts are sent on a special wireless carrier channel called Cell Broadcast they are not affected by congestion on the voice or SMS text channels. The alerts are transmitted simultaneously to all mobile devices within range of the cellular carrier towers in the affected area. The system does not need to know your mobile number and it does not track your whereabouts; it simply broadcasts the alert, and any mobile devices that can "hear" the alert will display it to the user."

What about the folks reading the alert at 0330, again at 0430 who have to be in at 0700? I firmly believe in the ticking Elgin and am hypocritical due to technology. The PROCESS (per Guy) is the contention. ONE proper alert should be sufficient coupled with pertinent upgrades/downgrades.

As said earlier, when you gd alarm everything (bfshn) the freakn' alarms are ignored and exploited by the bad guy. One can only respond to an insect or lizard so many times before a battery "ignorantly" goes dead. Tech is not the panacea. In fact, the more advanced; often the more dumbass: Wait 'till your self braking vehicle slams you against the dash for a tumbleweed and kills you in a rear end collision. Feel free to discuss the levity of svinmag with St. Peter.

Back in the Farce; I was often "on scene" first. At night. On a gd AF base. I would tell the Dsk Sgt to relay my initial observation to Fire and Med attempting to facilitate a quiet/fast "non-panic" response in most situations:

Hell no. In 24yrs this worked TWICE leaving me to deal with a crowd of drunks or pajama's OR both.

I would put a bullet though someone hurting a child faster than I'd shoot a gd rat.

This Angel needs no prayer and is now a guide. The scar over her eye represents the life she had on this sorry Earth. God Bless.

Yeah the system should Def try to figure out who is up and who is sleeping. It's the rare chance that at 4am someone is sitting at a gas station filling up heading out hunting and a car with that kid pulls up and that person is aware and able to do something about it vs seeing it on the 6 o'clock news and looking back not being able to do something now. As a parent I'll take any slimmer of hope that someone sees it even If that chance was 1 in a billion. I am not the type to call out someone, make a big deal about stuff or even post something 99.9% of the time but when I see something so fucking dumb like your comment I feel obligated. AGAIN, a 1 year old little innocent angel is dead and people have the nerve to keep defending themselves. Open your fucking eyes and think of someone besides yourself.
