I am all with the amber alert thingy -- but when I have all my notifications shut off on my phone and I have had roughly 3 hours a sleep per night over the last week -- and they sound an alarm for fargo - a place how many miles away from MT. I don't think that alarm should be going off in the middle of the night unless if tornado is on ground.

my day is shot. Worn out and complaining

Had the same thing, First one at like 4:30 then just when I was able to go back to sleep they send another one at 5:30ish. Wasn't thrilled either.

Also had it come on the radio twice on the 20 minute ride to work.
I wonder if this is more than just the typical family member taking the child. It seems they definitely want to spread the word.

you can go into your settings and turn the amber alerts off, other than that they will go off even with a phone silenced. not sure about the do not disturb if that is on they may not go off, that im not positive about.

If they work great, but honestly how many of us rolled over and shut it off in a daze without even looking at it. 4:30 am doesn't seem like a very efficient time to put out the message. I would think if they waited until even 6:30 they would have a lot more people look at the message.

Yep - not a good approach. 6:30 would get greatly improved "reception" by the public and thus be more effective.

I've got little kids. If one of them went missing, I want everyone to know ASAP. Easier to look for the offending vehicle ASAP, and at those hrs it'd stand out with few cars on the road.

i agree 100% with this, but man you would sure think that they would know this kid had gone missing before 3 AM?... had they put out the alert at say 8,9,10 even i think it said somewhere in there that the kid had gone missing around noon? well 15 hours later they put out an amber alert that kid could be a loooong ways away by then?

i think the amber alert is an awesome thing and i will never shut mine off, even if it wakes me up at all hours of the night, i cant imagine losing a kid, but i feel this could have been issued much earlier in the day

Someone will die from a heart attack if this continues. Changes needed. This approach is not the way to go. Rant over

I googled it and shut the crap off after last night. I was no help to peeps in MT. My gym doesn't open until six and it was hard waking back up after I fell back to sleep twice.

I guess if taxi drivers and other "night people" saw the alert they could well spot a vehicle as SDMF suggests. On the other hand many people will remove themselves from the alert list if this becomes a recurring issue.

Ya this makes sense. But like arrow said did the kid really go missing in the middle of the night? If so then it was probably done correctly. They did say on the radio this morning that it is not believed to be a family member, rather just a random that took the kid.

I think if you did studies on it - especially in a large city -- one would find out that the fatigue from blowing an alarm in the middle of the night - would contribute to vehicle accidents, heart attacks and more. Most likely greater than the advantage of the alarm. Its another knee jerk law from our politicians that really don't think outside the box.

I didnt look at my phone I just threw it up against the wall.

I am already worried about Ahab --- see he missed the gym this morning and from all that chair time in the big ole 621 -- I am worried about his health :)

While it didn't say this in the alert, one other spot I read (or at least thought I read) - the vehicle was possibly headed to Minot.

Just because you and I were asleep, it doesn't mean everyone was asleep and more than likely there were several that were travelling the roads these people could be on.

You can go into your emergency alerts app on the phone and turn them off if you are so annoyed by them.

They definitely damaged their cause more then helped. I turned the setting off and won't ever turn it back on.

First thing i did this morning was google how to turn off amber alert. I get the point of them, but sending one out at 3:30 AM when the kid went missing mid afternoon the day before is beyond idiotic. If they waited that long they can wait until at least 7 AM. Your correct that they did a lot of damage with that bonehead move. Alerts turned off on many phones after last night.

Its no different than tornado alarms these days. They used to only sound them when there was actually a tornado on the ground. Now every time there is a rumble of thunder they are going off in Bismarck. Nobody even pays attention to the damn things anymore.

They have to wait so many hours after reported missing.

they should have two amber alerts to sign up for - 24 hr or 16 hr that only goes off normal waking hours

that's a tough one I too have little ones and couldn't imagine anything like this. with that being said I turned my amber alert off as well. I didn't even know what it said other than I frantically awoke to that god awful noise and turned it off, didn't even know what it said.

I do hope they find the little girl, I know nothing of this situation but im sure she has nothing to do with it.
