We have a bull at our farm that just isn't right. His one antler is low and I think his skull might be broke. It doesn't look like it flops when he moves (seen some video) so it might just be abnormal. I'm concerned because were right next to the highway and it has been really busy with trucks hauling gravel and asphalt lately.

You think thats bad? You should see a train hit a deer. Was up by williston years ago and I seen a deer try and cross the tracks...train dam near turned the deer into a mist...was crazy

Yes that is the norm with the trains. Those deer i have seen around the tracks seem to have a few things in common. One some dipshit is baiting them onto private where bait is legal. 2 they are trying to get at different trees to browse on depending on the time of year
So all of there habitat is pretty much the same in there realm. So when they find new good food sources they jump on it. So not all deer are social critters some stay back and eat browse where they feel safe. Others make there way into feeders (handouts essentialy) alot of does and young bucks eat free at a person feeding them. This is basically tame deer in some regard even if nocturnal.

Ah that bull is more than likely fine to live a good life if some one dosnt give him lead treatment. Imo if they are healthy the antler cycle is yearly and he might grow strange in the future. All depends if his pedicle is lanky. Could be some crazy cool antlers he grows let him live. Looks like a 2 year bull imo.

Just because the animal more than likely had a injury to the pedicle dosnt mean he's a cull bull. Some of them runts in the herd turn out to be stronger than perfect antlers. Its like a dude with a small dick he's just waiting for his shot an he's good he's cool. When opportunity comes he's ready.

Not looking to grow trophy bulls. I want the population controlled. I got less than twenty yards from him yesterday in the trees. I’m pretty sure his meat is good but he’s not right in the head.

Saw a young'ish bull moose yesterday about 6 pm heading west on I-94 a few miles west of Hebron. Looked like about a 3 1/2 yr old bull.

Hmm i always wondered why the deer hung around the tracks where i hunt. I assumed it was to eat the grain that fell from the cars during transport..never thought that someone baiting them was attracting them to the tracks...

When I was going to tech school in Thief River Fall one of my class mates hit a big bull moose with a Gremlin. The auto body class was looking for a really messed up car to work on and they got it. LB

Was it carrying it birth certificate, I always wonder how people can see a Deer or Moose while driving and can tell the age at 80 mph.

The one I shot last year was tested and came in at 4.5 yrs old according to NDGF. It had a fair bit bigger rack and body. But I suppose the one I saw could have been the runt of the litter, or nutritionally challenged?

And, well...since I grew up around horses and cattle, a person does eventually learn the subtle differences in animals as they go from calf to heifer to cow, or colts to filly to mare, etc. Once they get to be fully mature animals, I would agree with you in that you'd probably want to put some sidebars on estimating animals once they're full adults. This tends to work reasonably well so long as we aren't talking about pen-raised deer.
