Anyone using OnX Fish? Any preferences of OnX over Navionics or are either one worth the price? Mainly ice fishing. I’m still old school on my handheld Gps with ND Trax Map. Has served me well but might need to upgrade

I looked into onx fish buddy had it and said it was garbage cant remember where they get the maps from not very good. I use cmap and i can shade all the contours and its map is way more accurate i think a year for the paid version is like 30 bucks.

I looked at Cmap before and couldn't find any lake listings. I missed out on the free trial for OnX fish just to see what it was all about.

I have both navionics plus and the garmin active captain maps on my phone and they both are very similar once I figured them both out. I'm guessing they are the same as navionics is what garmin uses. Can do the depth shading on one but I can't remember which one

The app is free download it and you can see what’s on there. The desk top also shows all the lakes it has. What lakes do you want o can look on mine and let you know

My 2 cents is that OnX Fish is geared towards scouting lakes - think one-stop-shop for stocking, surveys, info about the lake and what's in it. Their maps are NOT for precision from what I've seen. Most other dedicated lake maps will blow it out of the water (no pun intended) but they won't have the additional info that's helpful when scouting.

If you fish the same lakes and are already familiar with what's in it and you just need detailed maps - go with a dedicated mapping app. If you're scouting new lakes, adventuring, need a rough idea of the lake structure - OnX Fish will help you.

I use Garmin Active Captain and like it - it's synced with my waypoints from my Livescope. I plan to try OnX Fish to find some new lakes in my area for late ice season.
