It is now thought CWD and it's various forms in other animals and humans have always been around and just unknown. There is a line of experimentation that suggests these prions are spontaneous in their formations as well. The bottom line is in wild game populations they will not be eradicated just as TB has not been eradicated or EHD or other natural occuring diseases. Do we need to learn more about these diseases? Try to minimize them?
