I know this topic has been beat to death --- but have only one summer under my belt using live scope. I barrel mounted on a terrova and ran the cord in two rod sleaves never got pinched. What am i missing not using a pole.

Actively hunting fish, barrel mount. Anchor-locked and pitching back to shore or a seam on a river, you'll want it on a pole. Or be an idiot like me and have one of each.

I use a pole and will for the foreseeable future. The main reason is that I like to spot lock and still be able to pan for fish. It isn't quite as efficient as a barrel mount when hunting fish but it still works good enough for me.

What lake are you fishing? Do you spot lock often?
