Not what ya'll were thinking, but hoping to catch the eye of a few Greenthumbs for some lawn care advice.

The last few years Ive been aerating my lawn ~twice/year in order to help loosen up my primarily clay soil. amanzingly enough was able to establish a lawn but would like to improve it.. Anyone have any luck using Gypsum or Aluminum Sulfate??

I think green lawns were created by folks who hate fishing. Why the hell we spend so much time making them green when we could be on the lake somewhere, is beyond freaking me.

i just round up the shit in may so i don't have to mow all summer. works great.

this is a funny and true story

I fkn hate weed eating. I don't mind riding the garden tractor enjoying a blue num num but weed eating nope. so I round up anything I cant get with the big mower. anyhow wife decides it looks well not the greatest so I sais well if you weed eat each week then by all means I will stop spraying it. she did maybe half the weed eating her legs were covered in grass and cuts and nicks on them and she came inside and said I can do whetever the hell I want too., haha round up it is.

I take great pride in my green, well kept yard. Its something I spend a couple hours a week on. The sprinklers are set, the mowing takes about an hour, the weed trimming 10 minutes, and fertilize once every 6 weeks takes about 10 minutes.

A nice, plush, weed free, green lawn is what I prefer. Its not like I would be fishing at 5 pm on a Wednesday evening anyway. Plus the chicks dig it.

If you have to go with grass lawn try Dwarf Fescue Lawn Seed Mix it is a low water and a short grass which can handle zone 4 growing conditions

Yes, I did. The guy who took care of my lawn, and a friend ended up passing away suddenly (RIP) last year, and I decided to pick up a new fancy spreader and handling it myself. I moved and have a bigger yard, but much more hoopla in it to the point I have about half the actual grass area to maintain.

I am thinking of renting a aerator this next week or so, and seeing if I can miss the sprinkler heads while I learn this new part of the yard experience.

I have about an acre of grass in the county. I don't mind mowing but not all summer long. So I bought a rural blend from ChesakSeedHouse. Turns green when it rains and brown when it doesn't. I never water the lawn, just my flowers and vegetables.

I'd go with compost rather than gypsum or Al2(SO4)3. You won't see much soil improvement with the ammendment unless the soil is sodic. I had a grower in the office last week and the SAR test was around 18. To properly remediate the soil, it's going to take 30 tons of gypsum.
