I’ve always sucked at math :)

SDMF is right

moose hunts don’t necessarily involve the “miles from the road” hiking action that elk usually do

i won;
And the prize is :
12 points in muzzle,
6 points in mule deer.
Being soon to be 75 i to will not be able to walk if i ever get an elk or moose tag, but by age 100 i am sure i have enough friends if i get the tag to harvest the beast. If not i am sure i will get one after i part this world.

(trust me, i am sure i will get g&f to issue an additional 300-400 tags for elk this winter in the turtle mountain, if not then next year they will take a group of five under the guildance of a mentor and enable one of the five to shoot one, unless they use sharp shooters to thin the herd first). db

Have to feed the needed. Landowners for those who want us and for those who do not , we will come one day.

Elk tags and bitcoins and food-plots with meeces.

Snow tracks and beer cans strung up in the treeses.

Shedhorns in winter when dinner bells ring

These are a few of my favorite things.

If you walk more than 400 yards to shoot a cow moose you’re doing it wrong. Lol

This was in December about 7 miles north of town. Was really neat with all the frost. About 100 yards off the road. Wished I would of gotten a better picture. :(

My wife drew an m10 cow moose tag....and her scheduled c section date is October 23rd... no idea how this is going to work. Hopefully we can get on one close to a road I guess??

C-section scheduled for 6 months from now?

Congrats!

At what age would you guys consider putting in for cow tags? Assuming my health progresses at average, i'd probably start putting in for cows at 65-70. Easy for me to say now in my 30s.

Lots can change over that period of time. including tag allocations and animal populations. Look at the draw odds last few years and should have a good idea. I think most cow tags for moose and elk are sitting around that 25-70%. Those are pretty goods odds and one could expect to draw both of them pretty pretty quick. Everyone seems so surprised at how fast they draw those tags and many get both of them in the same year. However look at the draw odd history and it shouldn't be that surprising.

I think the moose opportunities we have in the state are a lot more unique than the elk. There are very few moose tags available nationwide. As a nonresident most out of state tags are almost impossible to draw in ones lifetime (except AK).

Elk- sure its nice to go get a $20-$30 tag or whatever and go hunt a cow elk. But ND cow elk is far from an easy hunt and lots of frustration involved in access and hunting pressure. One could spend $350-700 on a non-resident cow elk tag in numerous different states and go hunt them every year.

Age 65-70 is just old.

There was a time at that age you where just a dirty old man for pinching the butt of a lady. As a young one it was one of the reason to grow old and look forward to. But no more. Hell to grow old in this day and age. db

People think a cow tag is easier to fill which is actually not the case IMO. A cow elk tag in ND has to be one of the hardest tags to fill. But if your just interested in getting a tag and going hunting that's definitely the route to take.

I too wondered when to put in for a cow moose . I decided to do it last year and was drawn.
I enjoyed that hunt as much as if it was a bull . I would have never mounted a bull as I have
No room to hang one . I also wouldn't have as you have to admit they're not the prettiest mounts
in the world . I still can see her reaction to my shots and the aftermath . The landowner was
gracious enough to bring a John Deere loader out and carry it out , held it while I field dressed
it and then took it into his yard and rinsed it out to help cool it down as it was 70 degrees out .
I would apply for a cow again in a heart beat and never regret it . As a older Uncle told me years
ago , you can't eat horns .

At 50 right now, I will be applying the bull way for a few more years. I guess the hope of getting the tag after all these years has me still hoping. I feel good, but realize at some point in the not so far future I will have to give up on the hope of a once in a lifetime hunt.
