My main goal is to move the heat generated by my heater better. First, has anyone used the built in fan in their big buddy heater? Second, how well does it move the heat around? Third, there is 6v DC power adapter that uses 110. Can I buy the adapter/ wall charger, cut the wires and run it off a 6v battery? I am trying to stay away from using D batteries. Fourth, am I wasting my time with the big buddy fan in general and should I consider buying a little clamp on 12v fan instead.

I think the fan works good in mine i just use the d batteries and they last the whole year i just replace them at the start of the year. I have enough junk i take with as it is so i dont need another battery to haul around i like that it is self contained.

For my permanent, I bought one of those small cheapie(around $20 bucks) ceiling fans and alligator clipped to one of my extra 12v vex batteries. Lasts about 6-8 hours. Works fine. I have never used the built in fan on my big buddy. I concur with you..would get spendy replacing D batteries.

I've used the fan with D batteries. Like another guy said, they run a long time. I don't use my fan every time out, but I've had the same batteries in my heater for 2 years. I wouldn't fool around with trying to use an external power source.

The D batteries work well, as long as you remember to shut it off at the end of the day.....It happens a lot to me it seems. I have not had a reason to use anything else.

I have owned the big buddy, the hunting buddy, and the little buddy and used them for icefishing and bowhunting. If the pilot lights did not blow out so easily they would be a good product. Why cant they just make them without a pilot light? Im sure safety reasons...

4D batteries = 6 volts. If you don't use 1# propane bottles then you can mod your heater to run the fan with a 6 volt rechargeable battery. Lots of ideas and information in this thread:

I did mine a little bit differently as I wanted the fan to run on 12 volt power. The fan itself is pretty nice in that you can direct the heat from the source if you like.

I never use the fan. If I really wanted to directional heat, I would probably mount a 12 volt computer fan that I could clip on or off to the handle on top of the buddy and run leads to a vex battery.

Or if the stock fan worked good for you, just get a set of these and pop 'em on the charger next to your Vex/graph between trips.

No idea how long they last, just an idea. I personally buy giant packs of Rayovac batteries for most things and just chuck them. I guess that is eco-unfriendly. Ha ha
