A buddy of mine had a big fish in the tourney. They used a different smaller basket to weigh the big fish about half the size as the ones used to weigh the total baskets.

This cant be serious? now they have a separate basket that weighs different than the basket used for the 6 fish limit? They sure do know how to make things as complicated and confusing. They have to be the only tournament in the nation who doesn't know how to tare a scale.

First of all, I haven't fished this tournament, so it matters to me - 0%.

And forgive me if the logic has escaped me.

Why the heck wouldn't they tare the scale? Always. Every single time. If they did, they wouldn't have to keep the holy shrine of fish baskets, from one year to the next. Could use a 5 gallon bucket if they tared the scale before each weigh-in. Could use Aunt Brunehilde's double bowling-ball waist-pack for that matter.

I have thought and thought, and can't come up with a reason to not just tare the scale?

You would like there would be a bit of slime and grime from fish that would affect the weight as the weigh in goes on. I know its just a tiny amount but it would still make a bit of a difference. Forgive me if I am wrong as I don't tourney fish, I prefer for fishing to be stress relief. Maybe tournaments aren't stressful for some but for me I feel like it would be.

You're not wrong. Not a lot of slime though, in a freshly rinsed out Rubbermaid tote.

I fish to relax too.

Not me, I fish tournaments to prove to everyone that my boat is the best and my rod is the biggest!!!

slime, etc. affect the weights under the current method

all such factors would be negated by taring

I think they should do a 7 fish basket and let you squeeze the juice of one lime and sprinkle the shavings of 3 pencils on the fish. Also you get to add one sucker in your bag. Now we’re making sense;-)

I, too, fish to relax. But every once in a while, I like to put a little competition into it.

Seriously people complain about the weight of the basket?? The only people it offends are the people not fishing the tourney.. I think they weigh the basket just to get a rise out of the arm chair fishermen!!! Great run tournament again and thanks to the VOLUNTEERS who help put this together.

Maybe all the haters should VOLUNTEER and run a tournament at Crown Butte Dam, Mitchell Lake, OR Jake's lake?? Just think you wouldn't need a scale. You could wake up early brush the Cheeto dust off your shirt, take a negativity pill, grab your case of Hamm's and bam your there by 5:00 a.m. to launch the boats!!

Problemo: Crown Butte Damn was significantly affected by winter kill. You won't NEED a basket to weight fish. Just pop out the old single fish scale and claim the sole winner! ;:;popcorn

Yes, I think there was a bull rush for boats heading north. I'm assuming there were a ton of boats north from the first set of highlines with the red balls attached all the way to Steckel Landing. Yay or nay?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't offend anyone it's just fucking stupid! I would suspect the reason they do it is because it makes their overall weights look bigger than they really are and it's about as simple as that.
