That would be an interesting study. The amount of acres not considered in a town would dwarf acres in towns and cities. When compared to AG land, acres fertilized in towns is probably a lot lot less than you think. The amounts used per acre in towns would be much higher, but it would be interesting to compare the amounts sold and used in towns vs AG.Where do you think fertilizer and chemicals are over applied? A farmers field or a lawn in town. Then ask yourself which would be more susceptible to run off of said chemicals and fertilizer.
Of course ag uses more total tons but I can tell you we are not over applying fertilizer or chemical. The margins are way too tight.That would be an interesting study. Just a guess but I'm betting AG dwarfs the town usage and run off.
Not really if you understand how tile works. It’s buried 3 feet in the ground so the chemical and fertilizer has 3 feet of filtration before it runs out of the field. It would be way worse without tile than with in regards to chemical and fertilizer getting into lakes and rivers. And I’m not a huge fan of tile.
