I own a 83 1678 tiller model with a Merc 60 efi four stroke. My dad bought it new and has been used and not abused. Original wood used in the boat construction is shot. I rebuilt the transom using a pourable product called Seacast. Worked great. The main floor and casting deck need replacing. Plan on using marine grade wood and sealing with West System epoxy. No sure how the original flooring is attached to the hull and stringers. Original carpet still in place. Plan on using Marine grade vinyl for the flooring. Also was going to move the batteries forward and make a new in floor storage between the casting chair and bow. I think the original live well leaks or splashes over under the flooring. Also wanted to extend the rod locker storage forward and not toward the rear into the floatation foam. Not sure what the stringers will look like. The boat was always stored in a dry condition. Also plan on replacing the hoses, wiring, pumps replaced last year. I know its alot of work but worth it . Did you attach the main flooring to the sides of the rod lockers using glass and epoxy? Did you install the batteries in front of the livewell or on the sides? Thanks for the initial reply.#$%^&>

IIRC, the original floor is glued down to a "lip". I believe dad used a short blade saber saw to get most of the floor up and then gently used a wire brush, paint scrapers, and chisels to get the stuck on rotten wood off of the lip.

Batteries were centered into the space between the front chair and the bow. They were stacked side-by-side the long way. On-board charger was in the starboard side storage compartment.

Dad's livewell was splashing over the top and leaking into the hull prior to floor replacement.

With your's being a tiller and having lots of weight towards the rear anyway, I'd seriously consider putting a fuel tank under the main floor. You'll plane out quicker and will have a lot less bow rise as well. You'll also ride better in choppy water getting that weight forward and down rather than having cans anywhere near the transom.

Rusty memory wheels beginning to spin. Pretty sure we dug a little foam out of the stern end of the rod locker to make it longer. I don't think you can go forward with it as I believe you run into the live well.

just plan a little longer than expected. I'm in the process of replacing mine now. I'm now replacing/repairing some of the stringers and some of the float foam was holding water so replacing that also
