Most likely a dead head Devils Lake is notorious for them. Dead heads seems to come from nowhere one day you could be traveling the same GPS path and the next bamb abandon ship.

The gentleman is my wife's uncle. Experienced fisherman but I'm still unclear how he was taking on water. Friday afternoon a wave rolled him while he was trying to bail some out and he ended in the water. He was wearing his life jacket and was able to grab a gas can to help him float. He spent over 12 hours in the water before he floated up to the highway and was barely able to climb up on the rocks. A passerby found him and called for help. We received the phone call early Saturday morning that he didn't return from fishing. When they found his truck and trailer at the ramp, real panic started setting in. We are very thankful the Lord was on his side. I'm not too familiar with Devils Lake but he was around Minnewaukin. He is doing just fine now, but it was a long night in the water for him. Good reminder bad things can happen and to always expect the unexpected and be prepared. Be safe out there.

So where was your wife's uncle that he was in the water for 12 hrs, Devils Lake isn't that big of a lake especially if he had a small boat that was easily capsized. Also it was good to hear he is doing fine

I would assume the dumpground --- if one went out at the dumpground and the wind blows in different directions - saturday here was every different direction - i can see how one could stay out for a while. Luckily the water temp was warm - although i have spent a 12 hour day in 70 degree water - it breaks you down and takes it out of a person. If i remember the outside air wasnt exactly warm friday night/sat am --- add to that the bugs.
