I've been a tree planting SOB these last 4 years to try and develop a wind break around our house. With the nice March- April (up until this last week) just about all my tree are budding/ stating to leaf out. Cottonwoods, Elms, hackberry's, and Maples. Only the oaks are still dormant.

They're screwed now. Same thing happened last year, deep frost in late may zapped everything. Those trees took 4+ weeks to recover and leaf out last year.

Frustrating, need to vent...;:;banghead

oh man - that sucks!

We put buckets over our new Skaskatoons we planted last year... hope the buckets save their buds/leaves. They're tough and of course it won't kill them - but losing progress is a bummer.

Where you located Big Iron? The only tree's I have that started to bud were lilacs and boxelders, everything else is still dormant, and I have a LOT of other trees.

Yes it also really pissed my off last year, my ash and hackberry were just starting to bud out when we got that hard freeze and took them a long time to recover, everything else that had leaves on it did fine

Seems to happen most years in North Dakota. No real harm other than later leafing.

I set my sprinklers to come on at 4am last night for 10 minutes on each zone where my trees/shrubs are starting to leaf out. Hopefully that will help them a bit... Would suck to loose a years fruit on my cherries, blueberries and apples....
