When the AR's are gone from the people thats when we will see true death and distruction. LB
While I agree, I believe that opinion is in the minority if the entire US public was polled. I feel as gun owners, we can't just fall back on the 2nd amendment discussion, or the self defense discussion. It just doesn't resonate with the non-gun supporting public. Perception is reality, and for them they only know what they know- they see guns used for bad things. Why haven't the major gun lobby groups tried to get better PR surrounding firearms? PR showing how shooting sports teach proper firearm handling. How the culture of hunting, with firearms, keeps families and friends together? The lifestyle we live, and freedoms we have and use with firearms, should be shown. The narrative is only one sided right now, and it's all about bad people doing bad things with firearms.
Petras, you are probably right. I'd also probably see them setting up huge fines/penalties for them after buybacks were in place. Meaning you get caught with one, you go to jail. However, I just don't see a door to door ever happening. You tell me who is going to want that job- "hey, go to all the gun owners houses and take their guns. Yes, they'll have lots of other guns you can't take, but don't worry. Here is a bulletproof vest." I think massive penalties will be the main deterrent. If you can't even bring it out of the house they win.....or almost.
