Calling Turkeys in the Fall

Called a small flock of gobblers in yesterday afternoon. Had a hen decoy set up on a small hill. They were about 20 yards away when I tried to draw my bow and they busted me. Should have been hiding behind one of those big cottonwood trees down on the river bottoms. Might try a ground blind this afternoon. Has anyone had any luck calling them in the fall like this? I thought they only mated in the spring.

With all the moisture maybe they think it's spring
