Know southern folks that come up here in the summer and fish with guides and fill coolers they love the catfish here and there is no limit on oahe. My kid always keeps a few and he has learned how to clean fish with them. Dont let them freeze the skin is a real pain in the ass

That’s the thing that surprised me the most when I first started fishing cats. They fight like crazy!! I was not expecting that.

In the spring of the year I walk less than half a mile to the sheyenne. I can usually pick up a limit of nice eaters (channel cats 2ish to 3ish lbs) in less than 30 minutes.

They are VERY good table fare!!

I can see why as they have a lot of farm-raised catfish down there. In addition it’s on most every restaurant menu down there as well.

After the Tailrace experience (and probably Oahe) all cats taste like mud. If I'm going to eat freshwater fish in the South; it's LMB, crappie or bluegill. IMHO, all LM between 12/16in should be bled, iced etc.

If I get a hint of "fish" or mud; I'm done and fill up on sides.

My ex was from Alabama and her mom had a catfish pond right behind her house. Used to go out there to catch a few for her to make some dinner when we’d go there when we were stationed in Florida. I love good catfish though and will target them whenever I get around waters that have them. But when you get down in the south, you don’t have our Walleye, Perch and trout. My current missus is a Cajun lady from Louisiana and she wants me to give gar balls a try when I go back there again. 🥴

If she's been eating walleye etc from ND, she's likely ruined for cats, gar etc from down there.
