If canoes worked so good more people would use them that is just being fucking retarded. This is no different than people thinking there what ever is as good as Swarovski or there Savage shoots as good as a rifle built by GAP. If the little boats worked as good as bigger one people would use them in tournaments as they would win more money but facts don't make for a good story.

I agree Kurt.
Also if you think you can consistently catch fish pitching jigs better with a $20 Walmart pole than someone with a high end pole such as a gloomis as someone stated I would love to see it. Believe me I have tried and soon you realize you get what you pay for most of the time. I agree you don't need a high dollar boat to catch fish but who am I to tell someone what to buy or not buy. If you think just the sparkly rangers are only expensive go take a look at the price of other new boats too.

Just my opinion, but I agree with you when it comes to rods. I bought my kids some cheeky rods (knowing they may get ruined), and I've caught a few fish on them while they are shnoozing ... but I have lost more fish on those rods than I have caught. They have been demoted to kids shore fishing rods.

The whole mine is better than yours is so bogus --- if your read these threads long enough ---- unless if your rod says Loomis or Legend you cant catch a fish according to who? I was wearing a free sweatshirt last night at the bar and I had one guy come up to me saying you aren't shit if you don't use a custom rod --- that's another myth. I told him to f off I don't have time to run around; what time I have is spent fishing. The whole rod thing is bullshit. Yes a $20 rod is probably not the ticket - but for a few more bucks you can get a Berkley rod (i don't own any Berkley rods ) but I can bet they potential to outfish a loomis/legend. Its not only the rod its the entire presentation. Once you grow up you will realize that sticking out your chest isn't what life is about.

I would much rather hear about I used a 7'1" rod with a medium heavy action mojo with 20pp when I was ripping my 7" plastic gator worm though the weeds last night and I found that okuma heavy ....... worked better as the tip didn't bend as much and the bait was able to go through the weeds better. Give me some of that information instead of the snob shit.

If you are fishing light bites you will catch more with a high end rod I don't own any. If you are counting annual rings on a sheep Swarovski is better than voretx I own vortex and love them but it is just facts that some can't except as either they can't afford and are jealous or just don't know any better as they haven't used it. You can catch fish with a bamboo rod but it isn't the best thing for pitching in to current.

I cant remember the last year when they had the flw -- I was sitting under the linton bridge when them bastages came in. I watched them guys - why because they crawled all over my ass. Not one of them was using anything but what they had for a sponsor! None of that mattered and Keith and the guy from SD (draw a blank) were real close to me ; I know for fact Keiths rods were bass pro stuff rubber handles I don't remember what the SD had (I think bass pro sponsors him too ). None had a loomis or a croix-- I remember who ever was in my boat pointed that out. It did not matter one bit as to the brand of the rod or if it was $400 or the rod the cheap rod. the guy from SD won that thing if I remember correctly.

That is some ground breaking info there. What you think you know youight not know but as long as you believe you know that's what counts I guess. I might fish with a guy who has some insight on the tourney deals a time or two .......

It wasn't 08 or 09

i've never had the newest high end fishing stuff... could just never justify it in my own mind as i have more than 1 hobby to spend my money on... could i??? ya, but it's just not my thing...

the important thing to remember is that all the new technology is put into the cutting edge stuff, and is not designed and developed for the low end users... we mid to lower end users benefit from THAT technology once it is no longer cutting edge... if it were not for the high end buyer in almost every category, we would not have the really legit low to mid level technology most of us enjoy... if everyone was happy with using the green box on open water and there was no high end market to go after, we would not now be able to get a color gps sonar graph for $500...

let the high end users do their thing, cuz they're making the manufacturers chase their NEXT purchase all the time, and they need to sell lots of last years stuff to fund the r&d for the latest and greatest...

I've been buying outdoor stuff for many years. Grew up fishing with pretty much Daredevils for pike and Lazy Ike's for walleye. Still have some but they haven't been wet in awhile. I do like quality equipment but don't need the best. I have a pretty good pair of binoculars, thought they were really good until I looked through Swarovski's. Don't own real expensive rods, but do have better than average. Don't own a sparkly boat but have a very fishable rig.

Over the years I've come to the conclusion that lots of outdoor equipment is designed to catch more fishermen(women) and hunters than actual fish and game. Good equipment has it's place. Point being, a sparkly boat would fish and handle exactly the same with a pink paint scheme as sparkly. It just wouldn't catch as many fishermen. Same is true for golf equipment.

As far as tournament competitors, I'm pretty sure their equipment choice is determined by which manufacturer will provide the most or pay them the best. If you enjoy what you are doing and equipment you are using I could care less. Having fun is the intent. The more you spend, the more you're adding to the economy.

I will never buy another a name brand mass produced rods I will be making my own from now on. I will have a treasure trove of used guides from all the rummage sale buys. It is so easy now to make my own, the best 350 I have ever spent on a class for a craft of a life time.

Man, some folks... I have had pure crap fishing poles, reels. I mean the 10 dollar stuff and caught allot of fish for many years. As I have gotten older with bad shoulders and elbows, I slowly gravitated to higher end equipment. Its lighter, casts farther and relieves a bit of the stress and strain of casting/pitching all day. I missed the posts on here where guys brag about how superior they are to a guy with less expensive equipment. If your a good fisherman, your going to catch fish with whatever you have. I can finally afford and I like to use higher end stuff for casting. For BB, trolling I still use cheaper sticks. For myself, do the higher end rods help me catch more fish? Sometimes they do. I can last longer each day due to less fatigue and they are much more enjoyable to use when matched with the right lure. For the pros using sponsor stuff, they still use the best equipment the sponsor has. They are not using the middle of the pack stuff.

Can't believe i am gonna get involved in this conversation. But, i can't help myself. I have a self control problem... anywho... anyone who thinks there is no difference between a $40 rod and a $250 rod has obviously never used a $250 rod. They are better. Since they are better, they will help u put more fish in the boat. My 2 cents.

My thoughts about this topic are based not on the price of the equipment, but how efficiently that equipment can convert "Bites" into fish "Caught". Expensive equipment might be more sensitive and tell the one holding the rod they have a bite a bit better, but EXPERIENCE with ones equipment is worth much more than dollars when in the field. I know guys that have spent 5 grand on a rifle/scope combo that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they were locked inside while the guys with the 50 year old sears and roebuck special for 45 bucks are LETHAL on anything 400 and closer. Why? Because they have used that gun for 50 years. The same with fishing equipment. If a guy uses that cheap equipment long enough, they learn the nuances and special traits of that equipment which translates more bites into caught fish. Neither is better IMO. Guys can pay for expensive sensitivity or just use the cheap stuff long enough to "know" when they have a bite and over a given time frame the numbers of fish caught between the two, I suspect will be similar. Use what you have and just fish. Pretty sure the fish don't check price tags on equipment before biting the lure or bait. Good Luck Everyone!!!

I apologize guys and gals. Never meant to cause a me against them thread. I would love to have a bigger boat and better stuff on it and do not hold any animosity towards those that chose to do so. God Bless you. I just thought that on Friday night things were a little stale and I would try to stir the pot a little. If you are on the water and chasing fish, I couldn't care less what you are in or what you are holding for a rod/reel combo. Go get em.
